The story behind this ball

Following extensive testing, this lighter ball was designed with all the technical characteristics of a regular soccer ball. Two kilometres of thread has been wrapped around the bladder to maintain its pressure and sphericity.

Lighter than a regular ball.

This ball is 15% lighter than a regular size 4 soccer ball. What difference does that make? Because of the ball’s lighter weight, young soccer players can kick or head the ball more comfortably. It's also easier to aim, do long passes and score goals.A guaranteed hit!

Too light? Too heavy? The weight is standardized

This ball weighs between 280 g and 300 g (9.8 oz and 10.6 oz), compared to 350 g to 390 g (12.4 oz to 13.8 oz) for a regular size 4 soccer ball.

What’s the circumference?

This size 4 ball measures between 63.5 cm and 66 cm (25" and 26").

A round ball?

We measure the ball’s sphericity at 4,500 different points and then examine any differences. If the discrepancy is greater than 1.8% (FIFA Pro standard), our engineers work on improving the sphericity to ensure a consistent bounce.

Maximum pressure loss test: here’s what we do.

We inflate the ball to the recommended pressure (11.6 psi). The ball cannot lose more than 15% of its pressure over the next 72 hours, meaning a maximum pressure loss of 1.5 psi. The pressure after 72 hours must be approximately 10.1 psi. This also means that it’s quite normal for a ball to lose pressure after a few days.

We’ve also tested how much water the ball absorbs.

To simulate rainy playing conditions in a lab, we put the ball in 2 cm (1") of water on a pivoting support and subject it to 250 compressions. By the end of the test, the ball must not have absorbed more than 15% of its weight. For the size 4, that means a maximum of 43 g (1.5 oz).

It’s all about the bounce

Between 115 and 155 cm (45 and 61") with a maximum difference of 10 cm (4") between the ball's highest and lowest bounce. Each ball is dropped 10 times on a steel plate from a height of 2 m (2 yd).

Not even a scratch!

The most demanding test this ball undergoes is the machine shot test. The ball must resist up to 2,500 shots against an inclined flat concrete slab at 50 km/h (30 mi/h) at a distance of 2.5 m (3 yd). At the end of the test, we check: – The ball’s general condition: Stitching must remain intact. – Circumference: Must not have varied by more than 1.5 cm (1/2”). – Sphericity: Must not have varied by more than 1.8%. – Air pressure: Pressure loss must not exceed 12.5%.
