How to choose a wetsuit Part 1

The first factor to consider when choosing a surfing wetsuit is the water temperature. Water temperature varies depending on the location and time of year. Keep these guidelines in mind: Water warmer than 21°C. Water between 17 and 22°C. Water between 12 and 17°C. Water between 7 and 12°C. How to choose a wetsuit Part 2

The second thing to consider is the length of your sessions. Our 100 models are suitable for sessions of up to 1 hour. For 1-2 hours, opt for a 500 wetsuit; for 2-3 hours, go for a 900. Wetsuits with a higher model number are warmer, more watertight, and better at reducing irritation and fatigue The same is true for the 900 models, compared with the 500 models. Note: The 900 models are easier to put on.

Choosing a size

To get the most out of your wetsuit, it’s important to choose the right size. A surfing wetsuit should fit snugly and have no visible folds. It’s normal for the suit to feel too tight when dry; this discomfort will disappear once you’re in the water. If you choose a wetsuit that is too big, folds will develop and may cause irritation.

Materials

This Olaian 500 4/3 mm wetsuit is made from genuine neoprene for guaranteed optimal comfort during use. The synthetic lining provides added wear resistance. Neoprene thickness: 4 mm and 3 mm. The neoprene is made of an elastomer foam with insulating properties. We test and guarantee the quality of our neoprene materials.

Neck

The neck is designed to limit irritation. If you have sensitive skin, consider wearing a UV-resistant top under the wetsuit to reduce rubbing and chafing. To prevent chafing during longer outings, we recommend applying petroleum jelly around your neck and underarms. Make sure the flap is always inside the wetsuit to limit the risk of irritation with the zipper and the neck.

Fasteners

Our zip and fastenings are laboratory-tested to ensure good levels of resistance in salt water. The zip is at the back of the wetsuit for greater comfort when lying down to paddle.In addition, the 4/3 500 has a water barrier under the back zip to limit water entry!

Watertight assembly

The seams are stitched and glued. The seams are blind-stitched—the thread does not pass through the entire thickness of the neoprene, preventing water from getting through. The lack of threads on the inside prevents irritation and chafing. Patches for comfort and reinforcement are strategically placed on the inside in sensitive areas.

To stay warm, consider these accessories: - In water (>17°C) => low neoprene shoes. - In water (12 - 17°C): High-cut booties and gloves. - In water (7 - 12°C): High boots, gloves, hood, and hooded top.
