Is my parka warm enough for winter hikes?

This parka was developed for winter conditions such as cold, snow, and wind. Thick synthetic padding traps air and provides insulation. A long inner flap beneath the zipper keeps cold air out. The toggle at the hem ensures your parka is comfortable.

How does this parka protect you from outdoor conditions?

The parka has a waterproof material that keeps out water and wind. To stay warm in winter, you must also protect your extremities (head, hands, and feet). The covering hood, cuffs, and stand-up collar all help to keep out the cold. The comfortable, fleece-lined handwarmer pockets protect your hands.

Waterproofness

The waterproofness of a fabric, provided by a coating or membrane, is measured in Schmerber or mm (pressure exerted by a column of water). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric. This jacket is made from waterproof material (JIS 1092 standard) resistant to 15,000 mm (Schmerber) before washing. This waterproof parka protects you from a downpour, i.e., 12 cm of rain in 2 hours.

The main fastening has a long zipper pull with a double slider to ventilate your parka when you’re wearing it. Also very practical for bending down, sitting comfortably, or cycling.

Durability tests are conducted on selected components: resistance to rubbing and abrasion, colourfastness, and resistance to repeated washing. All these tests have been conducted on the jacket material.

How to preserve the technical qualities of your parka

Water repellency is a fabric’s capacity to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. It prevents the fabric from soaking up water, keeping it lightweight, warm, and breathable. Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. The garment should be retreated over its lifespan (recommended after each wash). Products for this purpose (spray or liquid) are available in our stores.

How to dress properly for hiking in cold weather

Whatever your cold-weather activity, use the three-layer technique: Layer 1: A high-tech base layer to wick moisture away from the body and keep your skin dry. Layer 2: A fleece jacket or sweater to provide warmth and transfer moisture outward. Layer 3: A jacket to protect against the elements (rain, snow, and wind). To eliminate moisture, the whole outfit must be breathable.
