Water resistance of the fabric

The waterproofing of a fabric is measured in Schmerbers or mm of water (pressure of a water column). The higher this number, the more watertight the fabric. This jacket is designed with a coated waterproof component: this component withstands 5,000 mm of water (Schmerbers) before washing (i.e., the pressure exerted by a 5-metre water column).

Fabric breathability

Our fabric is extremely breathable (RET 12). Breathability is measured according to the product’s thermal evaporative resistance. This refers to its capacity to release perspiration during activity. The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric. RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric. 9 < RET < 12 = highly breathable fabric. 12 < RET < 20 = breathable fabric. RET > 20 = somewhat or not breathable fabric.

How to maintain your jacket’s waterproof coating

To maintain water repellency, we recommend regular reactivation. Reactivate water repellency after three washes (remember to rinse thoroughly) or after using a dozen times in the rain. You can easily reactivate water repellency by warming the fabric: - in a dryer for 15 minutes (synthetics cycle) - with a hair dryer, moving back and forth from a distance of 20 cm (8”), twice - with an iron on the delicate setting and with the steam function off

Choose your waterproof jacket according to the intensity of your activity.

How much you perspire depends on the intensity and duration of your physical activity. If the fabric is not breathable enough for your activity, perspiration will condense inside the jacket. The jacket will feel damp inside. This dampness is not rain soaking through the shell, but condensation caused by perspiration. You need to choose the right rain jacket for your activity. This jacket is designed for 2-hour hikes at no more than 5 km/h (3 mph).
