How do the BL 100 Base Layer Bottoms fit?

Polyester is the most-used fibre for base garments because it is relatively inexpensive, offers excellent performance, and can be knit to obtain a very lightweight and durable fabric. It actively absorbs moisture but does not dry particularly well when wet.


What are the benefits of polyester?

We commit to repairing your product free of charge for the duration of the warranty. If you need seams, zippers, or another element repaired, contact your store. 
However, if we can’t repair your product due to a production defect, we will exchange it or reimburse you.

Insulation keeps hands warm. This polyester-based synthetic component traps more or less air according to its thickness. The thicker the insulation, the more air it contains and the warmer it is. These mittens have 200 g/m² thick insulation.

Will my child stay warm when playing in the snow?

Use the clip system to attach the mittens to the sleeves of their Decathlon ski suit or jacket for 1-5 year-olds.
The fun design of this accessory encourages children to attach the mittens to their sleeves all on their own! The colours combine to create animal characters.
The mittens will always be ready to put on!


How do I make sure my child doesn’t lose their mittens?

If you have don't have a jacket or a ski suit, no worries! An elastic cord inside the mittens keeps them on the child's hand.

It actively absorbs moisture but does not dry particularly well when wet.
Its ability to reduce odours is limited.

To make sure you stay warm and dry, we recommend using the “three technical layers” rule:  Layer 1: a second skin, to stay dry. Layer 2: an insulating layer that keeps the heat in. Layer 3: a protective layer that protects against the elements.

How to dress your children so they stay warm on the slopes

Thermal insulation will keep your young skiers at just the right temperature. This garment adapts to the body’s movements and to the outside environment. We use synthetic insulation to keep the body warm. Made from polyester, it stores air depending on the length of the fibres. The thicker the insulation, the more air it contains and the warmer it is. 

Synthetic thermal insulation

The coating is a waterproof substance that's spread on the inner side of the outer suit fabric. It prevents water from seeping into the garment but allows water vapour produced by the body's physical activity to escape. This keeps kids dry and comfortable.

Thanks to its ability to trap air and use it for insulation, the lining keeps your kids’ hands warm. They’ll stay warm on cold days with optimal thermal comfort between 0°C and 5°C.

Why wear fleece gloves?

The thermal resistance test shows the loss of heat between the body and the outside, indicating the insulating properties of the product. It uses a thermal hand with sensors that measure the retention of body heat.

How is thermal comfort measured?

Water-repellent fabric allows water to run off the surface without seeping in. These gloves are fully water-repellent. In the event of light rain or snow, your children’s hands will stay dry.

We perform comparative studies carried out in a thermal laboratory, in walking conditions with light winds (5 km/h or 3 mph). This is how we measure the thermal resistance of our boots. However, every individual feels the cold differently.
Comfort temperature: felt slightly cold and 70% of users find the thermal sensation acceptable on their feet.
Limit temperature: felt very cold and 10% of users consider the thermal sensation acceptable on their feet.

Are my boots warm enough for winter hikes?

Your boots have a membrane to guarantee waterproofing and breathability. A membrane is a very fine component (5 to 25 micrometres) affixed to the inside of a fabric that prevents water from entering but allows moisture to escape.

How do my boots protect me from outdoor conditions?

- Allow to dry away from a heat source. 
- On dry leather, brush with a stiff brush (horsehair and brass fibres) to remove mud and dirt.
- Use a crepe brush or nubuck eraser to remove stains.
For stubborn stains, clean with a brush and a little warm water and leave to dry.
- Brush again with a stiff brush.
- Spray a waterproofing product. This will give a shine to the leather and brighten up the colour.

How to care for nubuck leather shoes

Thermal comfort is a balance between warmth and breathability. Too much heat or not enough breathability lets moisture accumulate and cold set in. Designed with your activities in mind, this membrane prevents water infiltration on one side and lets moisture escape on the other.

Breathable boots for optimal thermal comfort

We made sure that your boots are waterproof by conducting laboratory tests that simulate walking with the boots half-submerged in water. We also conducted field tests to measure wear and aging. We tested 3 levels of waterproofing: 2,000 flexes (approx. 4 km/2.5 mile walk), 4,000 flexes (approx. 8 km/5 mile walk) and 8,000 flexes (approx. 16 km/10 mile walk). This boot has been tested for up to 4,000 flexes, equivalent to an 8-km (5-mile) hike.

Are my boots 100% waterproof?

The boot’s traction depends on the number and shape of the lugs. The grip depends on the materials of the sole and the tread pattern, like car tires. Traction optimizes propulsion, prevents slipping when going uphill, and stabilizes the boot. 
Grip prevents the boot from slipping and skidding on smooth ground or in demanding conditions (rain, snow, and ice).

What is the difference between traction and grip?

The material and tread of Snow Contact soles are specifically designed for optimal grip and traction. Snow Contact soles are more effective on snow than traditional soles. When walking on ice, adding anti-slip crampons to your boots is the only way to ensure optimum safety.

Will my boots withstand regular use in the long term?

Follow these principles for your winter activities. 
Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool).
 Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable.
Boot height: the height of the sock should correspond to the height of the boot—for more protection, choose higher socks.

How do I choose the right footwear for hiking in the snow?

Boots can become heavy through condensation and perspiration if you wear them in wet conditions.
If your boots are very wet, remove the insole and fill the upper with balls of newspaper, changing them regularly. The paper will absorb the moisture and help them dry faster.
Never place your boots too close to a heat source. Leave them in a warm, dry, and ventilated place instead.
