Worn as a third layer, this down jacket was certified effective during standardized heat chamber testing to a low of -5°C. The model is wearing a synthetic, long-sleeved shirt and a light fleece underneath. It works with a simulated 5 km/h wind. We also tested this product in static mode; the comfort temperature is 5°C in this case.

How warm is this padded jacket?

The fill power of down has 3 advantages for mountain hiking: 
- Thermal insulation, because of the air trapped in the down and feathers.
- Ultra-lightweight: down wadding is lighter than synthetic and provides the same warmth. This saves more weight in your backpack.
- Ultra-compressible.

The advantages of down and feather filling

Fill power is a measure of the down’s thermal insulation capacity and potential to trap air. It is expressed in cuin (cubic inches). Down with higher fill power will take up more space, trap more air, and provide greater thermal insulation. This jacket is filled with 90% down and 10% feathers and has a guaranteed fill power of 800 cuin (international standard) or more.

Inflating power of down/feather filling

This fabric is water-repellent. Water repellency keeps the fabric lightweight and warm. It is recommended to wear a waterproof jacket over top in the rain. Treatment on the outer surface achieves water repellency, but the treatment can deteriorate with use. We recommend restoring it after each wash.

Water repellency (different from waterproofing)

This washable down jacket can be worn all winter. But the less you wash it, the longer its thermal insulation and water repellency will last.
Our advice: 
1. Machine wash at 30°C with detergent specially formulated for down or technical garments. Use a gentle spin cycle. 
2. Tumble dry with 2 or 3 tennis balls; repeat 2 or 3 times until completely dry.

How to care for down jackets

After washing, we recommend using a water-repellent spray to prevent water absorption. This renews water-repellent properties and improves performance throughout the garment’s life cycle.

Restoring water repellency

The resistance of a fabric is measured by the height of a water column in mm that can be supported by the fabric (test based on the ISO 1092 standard).The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A component with an impermeability of 5,000 mm will therefore withstand the pressure exerted by 5,000 mm of water (which corresponds roughly to a 1-hour downpour). Waterproofing is expressed in Schmerber units (for example: 5,000 Schmerbers). This number applies before washing.

Component waterproofing

A coating applied to the fabric makes it waterproof and windproof. Technically, a waterproof fabric is also windproof. Protection from the wind is critical, as wind can chill the body during physical activity.

Windproof effect

Component breathability is measured by its thermal evaporative resistance (RET). 
This allows perspiration to escape during physical activity, preventing it from accumulating on the skin. 
The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric.

The design of the sole has been studied in our laboratories to provide a unique rubber that optimises traction and grip. Ideal for loose paths (forests) and rocky terrain (coast), its use on the road can accelerate wear and cause discomfort. Not suitable for high mountain use.

Boots suitable for which trails?

Our boots undergo an intensive test in the lab to guarantee their waterproofing. They are immersed and folded up in water up to a certain level, replicating real-life hiking conditions. This test ensures that your feet will stay dry for at least 2 hours, even in rainy or wet conditions.

How do we test waterproofing?

To prevent blisters, choose well-fitting shoes, wear suitable socks, lace them up properly, and adjust the laces before climbing and descents. Start with short outings to break in your new shoes.

How to prevent blisters

When walking in the forest, on the coast or every day, your feet are presented with numerous constraints. If your boots rub, this can be unpleasant, especially if you’re also sweating. And the cold can feel really uncomfortable if you don’t have adequate sock protection

Why choose a good pair of socks?

A waterproof boot will always be less breathable than a non-waterproof one. That’s why MH500 and MH520 socks with a high or medium upper are the preferred choice to wick away perspiration and reduce chafing in this pair of boots.

How does the merino wool limit odours?

We use a Beta-Spun yarn structure where polyamide threads coat the merino wool fibres and protect them from rubbing and cuts without affecting their properties.

How did we improve the durability of this T-shirt?

Merino wool easily traps insulating warm air and can absorb up to 35% of its weight in moisture without making you feel damp, which works well in cool weather. 
In hot, dry weather, water that evaporates in the wool absorbs energy, which simultaneously cools the body slightly.

Help moisture evaporate

Machine wash your merino wool T-shirt at 30°C on a normal cycle, preferably with liquid detergent. Always dry flat and never tumble dry, as this can cause the shirt to shrink.
