How is usage temperature measured?

Just like you wear several layers of clothing when hiking, you can wear liner gloves under your gloves that will act as a thermal base layer. This multi-layer system enables pockets of air to form around your hands, efficiently insulating them from the cold. Remember to wear large enough gloves so your fingers do not become constricted. Compression reduces blood circulation in the fingers.

How to effectively protect your hands from the cold

When active, the body generates heat that is preserved by your clothing’s thermal insulation. If clothing is inadequate, your body cools and circulation to your hands and feet drops to keep your upper body warm. Your clothing therefore plays a role in keeping your hands warm.

How to keep your hands warm with the right clothing.

Dexterity refers to your ability to handle objects while wearing the gloves. Our MT 500 Hiking Gloves have been rated in a laboratory. The closer the glove’s dexterity is to 5, the easier it is to handle objects while wearing the glove in the same way a bare hand can. For example, we tested the MT 500 Hiking Gloves for putting on and opening a jacket, handling objects in a bivouac, and eating and drinking. On the chest, insulation protects the area most sensitive to the cold. The fabric is relatively thin on the stomach for greater comfort when wearing a hydration belt. The very stretchy fabrics on the arms and back provide great freedom of movement.

A fabric's water-repellent property is its ability to let water slide off its surface without soaking in. The fabric doesn’t soak up water and so remains lightweight, breathable and warm. It is made from a treatment on the outside of the fabric, which must be renewed (every 3 washes).

This long-sleeved T-shirt offers optimal balance between warmth and breathability.
We used 2 fabrics:
- The main fabric is made from 89% merino and 11% polyamide (for durability) and weighs 240 g/m².
- The fabric for the inserts, particularly at the back and inside the forearms, is made from 63% merino, 24% acrylic (facilitates drying), 9% polyamide (for durability), and 4% elastane and weighs 260 g/m².

Fabrics used

Merino wool reduces body odour. This means that you can wear this long-sleeved T-shirt for several days in a row and carry fewer clothes when hiking.

For a softer feel, wash your shirt before first use.

Tip before use

We recommend machine washing your merino wool long-sleeved T-shirt at 30°C on a normal cycle, preferably with liquid detergent. 
Dry flat and do not tumble dry, to avoid shrinkage.

Wool fibres can store a lot of air and let water vapour escape, making wool an excellent choice for moisture management and thermal regulation. Wool’s ability to store and release moisture make it an insulating, comfortable material for hiking socks.

The properties of wool

The merino wool, from Spain, has been a carefully selected breed for generations because of its wool. It provides a softer fibre than traditional wool. After shearing, the wool is cleaned to remove impurities, then carded, spun, and finally used for knitting or weaving.

What is merino wool?

Merino wool offers an unbeatable experience: soft, lightweight, and breathable. Thanks to its fine fibres, it provides natural thermal regulation. It keeps your feet warm in cool weather and cool in warm weather.

What are the benefits of merino wool?

To stay warm when hiking in the winter, we recommend: 
- Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool). 
- Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable.
- Boot height: the height of your socks should correspond to the height of the boot: for more protection, choose higher socks.

Why choose a hybrid construction for the MT 900 Hiking 
Pants?

The MT 900 Hiking Pants are water-repellent. They allow water to slide off the surface of the fabric. This product is water-repellent, not waterproof.

The water repellency prevents the pants from getting wet too quickly. However, this won’t be enough to keep you dry if you’re in steady rain. For intense rain, you will need a pair of rain pants like the MT 500 Rain Pants (ref.8736465).

Water repellency can be reactivated using a reactivating water-repellent spray (ref. 8800346).

Are the MT 900 Hiking Pants water-repellent?

The MT 900 Hiking Pants have several pockets:

- 2 zipped hand pockets
- 2 zipped thigh pockets
- 1 zipped back pocket

A hook at the bottom of each pant leg allows you to hook your pants 
over your boots so that you can prevent stones and snow from getting inside.
