Polyester is the most-used fibre for base garments because it is relatively inexpensive, offers excellent performance, and can be knit to obtain a very lightweight and durable fabric. It actively absorbs moisture but does not dry particularly well when wet.

The warm, insulated lining effectively protects from the cold in temperatures as low as -31°C. Lab and field tested with hikers. We approved the comfort temperature both at rest and while walking, as this can vary significantly: -8°C when stationary and -17°C when moving. We also considered how different people feel the cold differently.

Are these boots warm enough for winter hikes?

A 100% waterproof mid-height inner shoe protects the part of the foot most in contact with the snow. The textile upper is water-repellent and warm for effective protection against cold and snow.
The seams that join the inner shoe and the upper are not waterproof. In very deep snow, over time water can get in through the seams resulting in wet feet.

How do these boots protect from outdoor conditions?

Traction depends on the number and shape of the lugs. The grip depends on the materials of the sole and the tread pattern, like car tires. Traction optimizes propulsion, prevents slipping when going uphill, and stabilizes the boot. 
Grip prevents the boot from slipping and skidding on smooth ground or in demanding conditions (rain, snow, and ice).

What is the difference between traction and grip?

The Snow Contact soles are designed for maximum comfort and grip for hiking on snow. The 3.5 mm (0.14“) lugs are spaced strategically for optimal grip when hiking on snow. They provide optimal grip on hard snow and evacuate excess water to prevent you from slipping.

How much grip and traction does this boot provide?

The material and tread of Snow Contact soles are specifically designed for optimal grip and traction. Snow Contact soles are more effective on snow than traditional soles. When walking on ice, adding crampons to your boots is the only way to ensure optimum safety.

What are the advantages of Snow Contact technology?

This product was lab-tested by our engineers to ensure your total satisfaction. We tested the following elements: tear resistance of eyelets and straps, bonding, toxicology, abrasion resistance of outsole and upper components, and accelerated aging.

Will my boots withstand regular use over the long term?

To stay warm when hiking in the winter, we recommend the following principles: 
Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool).
 Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable.
Boot height: the height of the sock should correspond to the height of the boot—for more protection, choose higher socks.

Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. This treatment needs to be reapplied throughout the product’s lifetime. How to preserve the technical qualities of the boots

Boots can become heavy through condensation and perspiration if you wear them in wet conditions.
If your boots are very wet, remove the insole and fill the upper with balls of newspaper, changing the newspaper regularly. The paper will absorb the moisture and dry them faster.
Never place your boots too close to a heat source. Leave them in a warm, dry, and ventilated place.

Laboratory tests are conducted to guarantee the waterproof rating of a component. The resistance of a fabric is measured by the height of a water column in mm.
The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. 
This product’s component has a 20,000 mm waterproof rating and can withstand the pressure of a 20,000 mm water column. 
This is equivalent to 20,000 Schmerber.

A fabric is water-repellent when water slides off its surface without being absorbed. Because the fabric doesn’t soak up water, it remains lightweight and breathable. Water repellency can be reactivated by putting the item in the dryer for 10 minutes on low heat.

Are they warm enough for winter?

These boots have an ultra-fine, waterproof, breathable textile membrane to protect from light rain on your hikes. In good weather and slightly slippery terrain, your feet stay dry and warm.

Do the boots provide protection in all conditions?

The thermal comfort of your boots is what keeps your feet warm. Designed for occasional use, the waterproof membrane keeps water out. The air around your feet provides better ventilation to reduce moisture build-up inside the boot.

What is thermal comfort?

We make sure our boots are waterproof using tests carried out in the lab that simulate feet half-immersed in water, use, and aging tests on the ground.

Are they 100% waterproof?

The lugs of these boots are like claws that grip the ground, providing traction when you’re climbing. 
Grooves under the soles act like the tires of a car and keep you stable on slippery terrain. These boots will make light work of winter terrain. 

Traction, grip, or both? What’s the difference?

SnowContact soles come with specific components and a tread design created to provide grip and traction. Although these soles are more effective on snow than traditional soles, add non-slip grips if you’ll be wearing these boots only on ice.

What does the SnowContact technology provide?

Our engineers carry out tests to check that our products are ready for you! They test: resistance of the straps, UV resistance, abrasion, and aging. Nothing escapes their attention to ensure your complete satisfaction.

What should you wear for hiking in the snow?

Think of your waterproof boots as a shield against water. Their water-repellent properties make them waterproof, breathable, and lightweight. However, the water-repellent treatment needs a little refreshing from time to time to stay effective. Simply spray to refresh the material.

How to maintain the waterproofing

To effectively dry the inside of your boots, remove the insole. Stuff the boots with newspaper to absorb moisture and change the newspaper regularly. Avoid direct heat sources that might damage the material, and choose a dry, warm, well-ventilated place to let them dry.

This jacket is designed for winter conditions: cold, rain, and snow. Insulation is provided by 200 g/m² wadding on the body and 150 g/m² on the arms (synthetic component that uses air trapped in its fibres to insulate). A long inner flap beneath the zipper blocks cold air. The toggle at the hem ensures your jacket is comfortable down to -10°C with a limit temperature of -27°C.

The recommended comfort temperature is the outdoor thermal balance temperature at which 95% of men, hiking at a moderate intensity in controlled conditions, have been neither too hot nor too cold.

The jacket has a waterproof material that keeps out water and wind. To stay warm in winter, you must also protect your extremities (head, hands, feet). The warm hood, hook-and-loop tab fastenings at the cuffs, and high collar keep the cold out. Two warm, very soft fleece pockets protect your hands from the cold.

How does this jacket protect from outdoor conditions?

The waterproofness of a jacket isn’t just limited to its components: the assembly technique also makes a difference. Whether heat-sealed or sewn then waterproofed, this jacket’s overall waterproofness is measured using a shower test developed by Decathlon, which simulates rain of different intensities. This waterproof jacket protects you from a downpour, i.e., 12 cm (4.7”) of rain in 2 hours.

The waterproofness of a fabric, provided by a coating or membrane, is measured in Schmerbers or mm (pressure exerted by a column of water). The higher this number, the more watertight the fabric. This product has a waterproof component resistant to 5,000 mm or Schmerbers before washing.

We listened to feedback from runners for this second version (V2). The component used for the ends of the index finger and thumb has been totally modified. We selected a very soft imitation suede component to increase the efficiency and precision of the touchscreen function.

In addition to choosing the right size, it is also important to adjust the extremities of the fingers of your gloves (especially the thumb and index finger) to ensure they are correctly positioned and avoid creating creases at the touchscreen parts.

How do I optimize the touchscreen function?

Every runner may have a different sensitivity to cold. 
Our unisex adult touchscreen gloves are designed for running in cold weather at temperatures between 5°C and 10°C. The comfort temperature is 10 °C.
