How to choose your rash guard (part 1)

UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) is an international standard that measures  the proportion of UV rays a fabric lets through to your skin.
A UPF of 50+ means that the fabric blocks at least 98% of UVB rays and 95% of UVA rays.

What does UPF 50+ mean?

This UV-resistant rash guard helps minimize irritation due to contact with your surfboard or bodyboard. It can also be worn under a wetsuit to limit chafing around the neck and armpits. Shown to reduce chafing from paddling movements during one-hour sessions. If you plan to surf for more than one hour, our 500 UV rash guard with seamless underarm panels is a better choice.

This rash guard has a front loop that attaches to the cord of your swim shorts to keep it from riding up while you surf. Ideal for sessions of up to an hour. For longer sessions, we recommend our UV 500 rash guard, which also has a drawstring at the hips to keep it in place. A rash guard can cause irritation on the lower abdomen if it rides up.

Support and stability in waves

This rash guard is recommended for use in water temperatures of 22°C and up. Air temperature may affect this recommendation. 
Our thermal models are made of fleece, neoprene, or both. We recommend choosing a model made with neoprene if you’ll be out in conditions where the wind exceeds 15 km/h.

Suitable for multiple water sports

This top is UV-resistant, but it doesn’t provide total sun protection. Consider other factors like reflections (off water, sand, etc.), temperature, and time of day. Wearing this top is just one part of staying safe in the sun. You should also wear sunglasses and a hat or cap, apply sunscreen regularly, and drink plenty of water.

Practical and comfortable, they are suitable for both men and women.
This type of swimwear was created in the 1950s for surfing. In more recent years, they have become a popular style of swim shorts.

Your body shape can influence your choice of size.
We always recommend trying on swimwear before purchase. Fasten your shorts and gradually pull them downwards. If they are easy to pull down, it means they are too big and you could be in for a few surprises once you’re in the water surrounded by waves!

How to choose the right size of boardshorts

How to choose your boardshorts according to the waistband

Shorter cuts (between 14" and 17") give you freedom of movement and allow you to do a wide range of water sports, including surfing (for occasional sessions of less than 1 hour).
Longer cuts (between 17" and 20") reduce irritation from the board or wax on the thighs, and at the top of the knees when paddling. These cuts are therefore better suited to regular or even intensive surfing.

How to choose boardshorts according to length?

When surfing, whether it’s due to duck diving or a wipeout, it’s not easy to retrieve and reposition boardshorts that have fallen down while paddling at the same time...
Choosing the right waistband for surfing becomes essential in this case.
Go for an elasticated or semi-elasticated waistband with a drawstring that goes all the way round the waist. 
The Hendaia boardshorts feature a fully elasticated waistband with drawcord.

Wave resistance 
100 range

This has got to be the most important criterion when choosing swim shorts.
It’s not uncommon for a swimsuit or boardshorts to rub and irritate the skin.
Our boardshorts are designed, both in terms of the shapes offered and the assembly methods, to minimise chafing as much as possible during your time in the water. 
On the 100 range of our swim shorts, the inner mesh or briefs help to reduce the occurrence of this unpleasant phenomenon.

In surfing, bodyboarding and bodysurfing, the legs are working hard, so boardshorts need to not restrict either bending/stretching or kicking.
A two-way (2 horizontal directions) or four-way (4 horizontal and vertical directions) stretch component contributes to this freedom of movement.
A short 15" cut encourages lower body movement and hold, particularly for surfing.

Multi-sport nautical accessory

The minimum water temperature recommended for the use of this surfing top is 22°C if it is worn on its own. This fleece shirt helps avoid shivering when you enter the water. 
Warning: the presence of wind will have an impact and can cause discomfort when wet, making you feel colder. In windy conditions it is therefore recommended to choose a neoprene top.
This top can be worn under your wetsuit for extra warmth.

This thermal top helps limit rubbing and chafing due to contact with the surfboard or bodyboard. It can also be worn under a wetsuit to limit chafing around the neck and armpits. Seamless panels under the arms reduce irritation caused by paddling movements. Our various test protocols confirmed that chafing was significantly reduced during 3-hour sessions.

A small waterproof bag (IPX6) with a 5 L capacity to keep your essential belongings protected during your SUP, kayaking or other outdoor activities.

If you’re carrying electronic devices or important documents, we recommend doubling the protection by using a waterproof pouch (IPX8) or a second, smaller dry bag that fits inside your bag.

Ensure all bags are properly closed and check water resistance with paper towel before hitting the water.
Do not swim with the bag neither immerse it underwater.

Precautions for electronic devices

To ensure good water resistance: 
1/ Press the two parts of the opening against one another.

3/ Fasten the two buckles at the top to secure the strap over the eyelets.

Leave some air in the bag. It is more waterproof when inflated and floats for easy retrieval if dropped in the water.

With Case

Goggles can fog up for several factors: a difference in temperature between the body and the water, humidity levels, etc. Wear due to friction is one of the main causes.

If your goggles fog up, dip your lenses in the water and a protective film will reform.
It is normal for the performance of the anti-fog coating to drop over time.

We provide a special marker to reactivate the anti-fog treatment and help your goggles last longer.

Reduce fogging

The goggles’ watertightness depends on how well they fit the shape of your face. 

Before purchasing, we recommend doing a suction test without the strap.
If the goggles stay on your face with only slight suction, they will be watertight during your swim. This also enables you to spot any areas of discomfort or annoyance when the model is on the face.

This model is adjustable and only available in one size.

Sizes

These swimming goggles fit the shape of your face and don’t need to be over-tightened.

Goggles that are too tight can cause discomfort, leave marks, and let water seep in.

You don’t need to press against the lenses with your hands. A light suction effect is all you should need to keep water out.

The straps should sit 2-3 cm above your ears This position will optimize the grip and comfort of the goggles.

Adjusting the fit

Care advice: 
- Rinse your goggles as needed by dipping them in the water
- Keep water jets away from the inside surface of the lenses
- Store in their case between sessions to avoid scratches and to protect the anti-fog treatment
- Avoid exposing the goggles to temperatures over 60°C
- Do not touch or wipe the inside of the lenses

The colour of your lenses should suit your swimming location and its lighting.

If you swim outdoors or in a pool with harsh lighting, choose goggles with smoked lenses to limit glare. 

If you’re outdoors in the evening or the pool is dark, use clear lenses.

Lens tint

Complies with standard QB/T 4734-2023; all Nabaiji swimming goggles protect against harmful UVA and UVB rays when used normally, regardless of the lens tint.
