All our gloves are lab-tested on a thermal hand. The temperature ratings (recommended and limit) come from a study with a test panel of 23 walkers exposed to temperatures ranging from 5°C to -20°C and 10 km/h (6 mph) winds. These temperature ratings are only valid in walking conditions.
The MT 900 Gloves have a warmth rating of 3 out of 5. Recommended temperature: -5°C

How is usage temperature measured?

Just like you wear several layers of clothing when hiking, you can wear liner gloves under your gloves that will act as a thermal base layer. This multi-layer system enables pockets of air to form around your hands, efficiently insulating them from the cold. Remember to wear large enough gloves so your fingers do not become constricted. Compression reduces blood circulation in the fingers.

Wool fibres can store a lot of air and let water vapour escape, making wool an excellent choice for moisture management and thermal regulation. Wool’s ability to store and release moisture make it an insulating, comfortable material for hiking socks.

The properties of wool

The merino wool, from Spain, has been a carefully selected breed for generations because of its wool. It provides a softer fibre than traditional wool. After shearing, the wool is cleaned to remove impurities, then carded, spun, and finally used for knitting or weaving.

What is merino wool?

Merino wool offers an unbeatable experience: soft, lightweight, and breathable. Thanks to its fine fibres, it provides natural thermal regulation. It keeps your feet warm in cool weather and cool in warm weather.

What are the benefits of merino wool?

To stay warm when hiking in the winter, we recommend: 
- Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool). 
- Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable.
- Boot height: the height of your socks should correspond to the height of the boot: for more protection, choose higher socks.

How do I choose the right footwear for hiking in the snow?

A practical and comprehensive set of accessories for all your outings

The waterproof component and the assembly prevent water from getting in. The seams are waterproof, and the zippers are also waterproof and under a protective flap. This jacket has been tested in a special shower that reproduces the conditions of the ski resorts, and in the field for several days in different weather conditions.

A fabric's water-repellent property is its ability to let water slide off its surface without soaking in. The fabric doesn’t soak up water and so remains lightweight, breathable and warm. It is made from a treatment on the outside of the fabric, which must be renewed (every 3 washes).

The pants are padded with 60 g/m² insulation: just enough to keep you warm without being too thick.

Warm without compromising on breathability

The RET, or the evaporative resistance of the material (ISO 11092 standard), is 12. The lower this rating, the more water vapour generated by the body evaporates.

Breathable fabric and ventilation

This is a very thin polyurethane film that makes the material waterproof while remaining breathable. More flexible, lightweight, resistant and often more breathable than coating, which is less expensive and requires a protective lining, similar to paint applied to the inside of the fabric.

What to wear under ski pants

For warmth, we used insulating fill (60 g/m²). This synthetic, polyester-based insulation traps air according to the size of the fibres to keep you warm.

Which fabrics are used to make my pants warm?

We lab-test our products to provide you with a comfort indicator. The comfort indicator is measured without tights for pants, and with a thermal T-shirt and a fleece for jackets. The temperature indicated is the external temperature at which the testers were neither warm nor cold. Of course, the perceived temperature varies depending on the intensity of the activity and each individual’s metabolism.

How is comfort temperature measured?

The membrane is a very thin component applied to the inner surface of the outer fabric. This component prevents water from seeping in while wicking away perspiration. The membrane is unbeatable when it comes to keeping you warm and dry.

What is a membrane and what does it do?

A fabric’s water resistance is measured by the height of a water column in mm it can support (test based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A water-resistance rating of 10,000 mm means the fabric can resist 10,000 mm of water pressure.
For skiing, we advise components rated between 3,000 and 20,000 mm. 
At Decathlon, we lab test all of our waterproof products. This product scored 3/5.

How is your pants’ water resistance measured?

These pants have been developed using a robust component and superior construction that limit wind chill and prevent water from entering to help you brave all weather (rain, snow, wind, etc.). To check their water-resistance, the pants were placed under a special shower reproducing the conditions faced by a skier. We checked the waterproofing of this product in use in various weather conditions over several days.

How can I be sure my pants will protect me in bad weather?

Water repellency is a material’s ability to let water bead off the surface without being absorbed. The water-repellent features of these pants improve their resistance to bad weather. The exterior surface of the fabric is treated to make it water-repellent. However, this property may deteriorate with use.

Why are my pants water-repellent?

Bear in mind that the water-repellent feature can be reactivated. Simply tumble dry on a synthetics cycle for 10 to 15 minutes.
You can also use a waterproofing spray sold in our stores: spray the product evenly over the entire item, then allow to dry for 10 to 12 hours.

Can I restore the water repellency of my pants?

This jacket wicks moisture away. To determine a fabric’s breathability, we measure its resistance to evaporative heat (RET) based on a standardized ISO 11092 test. The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric. The 500 Downhill Ski Pants have a RET of 11. However, it is Wedze’s technical solutions (zippers, vents, mesh) that reduce condensation and maximize breathability.

What are “breathable” pants?

To keep your legs warm and dry, two layers of clothing are enough:
- a ski base layer to wick away perspiration.
- ski pants to protect against bad weather and provide warmth.

How should I dress to keep my legs warm on the slopes?

These pants have elastic gaiters at the ankles to cover your boots. The seal created by the gaiters keeps the snow out.

How can I prevent snow from getting in my pants?

The regular fit allows the pants to be combined with a technical base layer.

What is the cut of the 500 Downhill Ski Pants?

To optimize your product’s performance and durability: 
*Machine wash at 30°C on a synthetics cycle. 
*Turn the product inside out.
*Use a small amount of detergent. Do not use fabric softener.
*Wring by hand. 
*Dry on a hanger in a warm, well-ventilated place.
Do not dry clean. Do not place on a radiator.

How should I wash my pants?

During the warranty period, solutions may be offered to you in-store. If we can’t repair your product (production defect), we will exchange it or reimburse you.
