The thermal resistance test measures the loss of heat between the body and the outside, indicating the insulating properties of the product. It’s carried out on a thermal hand via sensors that measure body heat.

So that your children are protected during their cross-country skiing outings, we've designed some water-repellent clothing.
The water-repellent property of a fabric is its ability to make water run off its surface without absorbing it. 
The water repellent property is obtained by applying a treatment to the outer surface of the fabric. 
This treatment needs to be restored during the lifetime of the garment (every 3 washes). 

WATER-REPELLENT PROPERTIES

Follow the 3-layer technique. 
Layer 1: second skin (high-tech base layer) that transfers moisture away from your body and keeps your skin dry.
Layer 2: insulating (T-shirt, fleece) layer that provides warmth and transfers moisture outwards.
Layer 3: outer protective (jacket) layer that protects from the weather conditions: wind, snow, and cold.

The feet, hands, and head are the most exposed parts of the body and, therefore, the parts most in need of protection.

How to dress your child for their cross-country ski outings

Did you know that the wind makes you feel colder? 
With an outside temperature of 0°C and a 20 km/h wind, the perceived temperature is -10°C.
The so-called "windproof" components help to reduce this wind chill by blocking the air flow resulting from actual wind and the forward motion of your activity.

Wash the fleece at 30°C on a synthetics cycle to avoid damaging it. Wash it inside out with the pockets closed. To protect the fabric, do not exceed a 1,000 rpm spin speed. Do not tumble dry.

Wool fibres can store a lot of air and let water vapour escape, making wool an excellent choice for moisture management and thermal regulation. Wool’s ability to store and release moisture make it an insulating, comfortable material for hiking socks.

The properties of wool

The merino wool, from Spain, has been a carefully selected breed for generations because of its wool. It provides a softer fibre than traditional wool. After shearing, the wool is cleaned to remove impurities, then carded, spun, and finally used for knitting or weaving.

What is merino wool?

Merino wool offers an unbeatable experience: soft, lightweight, and breathable. Thanks to its fine fibres, it provides natural thermal regulation. It keeps your feet warm in cool weather and cool in warm weather.

How will these gloves keep my child’s hands warm?

Fleece is designed to trap air thanks to the volume created by its texture. This air acts as a natural insulator, keeping the body warm. It is the brushing of the knit fabric that traps the air.

How does the fleece protect from the cold?

In the same way that wearing several layers of clothing keeps you warm when hiking, you can wear liner gloves under your gloves to keep your hands warm. This multi-layer system creates air pockets around your hands, efficiently insulating them from the cold.
Remember to wear large enough gloves so your fingers do not become constricted. Compression reduces blood circulation and can make your hands colder.

How to effectively protect your hands from the cold

When active, your body generates heat that’s trapped by your clothing’s thermal insulation. If the clothing is inadequate, your body cools and the blood flow to the hands and feet drops in order to keep your upper body warm. Your outfit therefore has a role to play in keeping your hands as warm as possible.
If you’re unsure about size, it’s always better to choose a pair of gloves that are slightly too big.

How to keep your hands warm with the right clothing

If this happens then dry them in a dry place but avoid placing them on a heat source. Heat can damage the fabric and cause them to lose their shape.

This means that the fabric does not soak up water, and therefore remains lightweight, breathable and warm. A fabric becomes water repellent by applying a treatment to its outer surface regularly (we recommend every three washes).

Water rolls off without being absorbed so the garment remains light, breathable, and warm. This product is water-repellent, not waterproof.
This treatment should be reapplied to remain effective. Apply sprays on the outside instead of using additives during washing, as these additives can damage the product’s breathability.

We perform comparative studies in a thermal laboratory in walking conditions with light winds (5 km/h or 3 mph). This is how we measure the thermal resistance of our boots. Everyone feels the cold differently.Comfort temperature: Felt slightly cold and 70% of users experienced thermal comfort in the boots.

Are these boots warm enough for winter hikes?

These boots have a membrane to guarantee waterproofing and breathability. A membrane is a very fine component (5 to 25 micrometres) on the inside of a fabric that prevents water from entering, but allows moisture to escape.

How do these boots protect from outdoor conditions?

We made sure that your boots are waterproof by conducting lab tests to simulate walking with the boots half-submerged in water. We also conducted field tests to measure wear and aging. 

Are my boots 100% waterproof?

This product was lab-tested by our engineers to ensure your total satisfaction. We tested the following elements: tear resistance of eyelets and straps, bonding, toxicology, abrasion resistance of outsole and upper components, and accelerated aging.

How to preserve the technical qualities of the boots

Boots can get wet from condensation and perspiration.
If your boots are very wet, remove the insole, fill the upper with balls of newspaper, and change the newspaper regularly. The paper will absorb the moisture and dry them faster.
Never put the boots too close to a heat source. Leave them in a warm, dry, and ventilated place.
