Boardshorts is a term used to designate this type of swimwear used in the world of surfing and water sports.
Practical and comfortable, they are suitable for both men and women.
This type of swimwear was created in the 1950s for surfing. In more recent years, they have become a popular style of swim shorts.
The name “boardshorts” comes from their use in water sports using a board, such as surfing. 

What are boardshorts?

The 500 and 900 ranges are available in US sizes S–XL.
Your body shape influences your size choice.
We always recommend trying on swimwear before purchase. Fasten your shorts and gradually pull them downwards. If they pull down easily, they’re too big and you could be in for a few surprises once in wavy water! 

Choosing the right boardshorts size

Choosing your boardshorts by the waistband 

Shorter cuts (14–17 in) give you freedom of movement and allow you to do a wide range of watersports, including surfing (for occasional sessions of less than 1 hour).
Longer cuts (17–20 in) reduce irritation from the board or wax on the thighs, and at the top of the knees when paddling. Therefore, these cuts are better suited to regular or even intensive surfing. 

Choosing boardshorts by length 

Whether it’s due to duck diving or a wipeout, retrieving and repositioning boardshorts that have fallen down isn’t easy while paddling at the same time...
Choosing the right waistband for surfing is essential to avoid such mishaps.
Go for an elasticated or semi-elasticated waistband with a drawstring that goes all the way round the waist. 
The BS 500 has a flat, anti-slip drawstring that stays securely tied throughout your surfing or other watersports session. 

Wave resistance

Surely the most important criterion. It’s not uncommon for other boardshorts or their seams to chafe.
Our boardshorts are designed specifically to limit chafing, a common issue for surfers. 
In addition, the boardshorts 500 benefit from a central strip that moves the seams away from the usual friction zones, thus significantly limits irritation.

In surfing, bodyboarding, and bodysurfing, the legs are very much in demand, so boardshorts must not restrict motion. A two-way (2 horizontal directions) or four-way (4 horizontal and vertical directions) stretch component contributes to this freedom of movement.

That said, our line is designed primarily to meet the specific needs of surfers.

Choose your rash guard based on the duration of your surf session: 1 hour, 2 hours or 3 hours. 

How to choose your rash guard (Part 1) 

1 hour: occasional practice. Choose between a loose cut for ease of dressing and comfort when dry, or a fitted cut for comfort when wet. Get a loop system to fasten the rash guard to your shorts.
2 hours: regular practice. A rash guard with a drawstring and seamless underarm panels improves fit and comfort in the water.
3 hours: intensive practice. A model with added warmth lets you stay out longer. 

How to choose your rash guard (Part 2)

Ideal for aquatic sports, they can be worn in or out of the water. Chlorine-resistant. 

UV protection even when wet. 

UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) is an international standard that measures the proportion of UV rays a fabric lets through to your skin. A UPF of 50+ means the fabric blocks at least 98% of UVB rays and 95% of UVA rays. 

What does UPF 50+ mean? 

This rash guard reduces chafing against your surfboard or bodyboard. The loose cut of this rash guard t-shirt makes it easier to put on and is more comfortable when dry. Choose the fitted 100 or 500 model if you prefer comfort when wet or plan to wear it under a wetsuit. Shown to reduce chafing during 1-hour sessions. If you plan to surf for longer, our 500 UV rash guard with seamless underarm panels is a better choice. 

Anti-irritation 

You can attach this top to the drawstring on your boardshorts to prevent it from riding up while you surf. Ideal for sessions of up to an hour. For more than 1 hour, we recommend choosing the 500 UV top, which also has a drawstring at the hips for better stability. A rash guard can cause irritation on the lower abdomen if it rides up. 

Shorts attachment loop

This rash guard is recommended for use in water temperatures of 22°C and up. Air temperature may affect this recommendation. 
Our thermal models are made of fleece, neoprene, or both. We recommend choosing a model made with neoprene if you’ll be out in conditions where the wind exceeds 15 km/h.

Warmth and wind 

Our UV tops meet the needs of the most demanding surfers. They’re compatible with many other water sports, including swimming, kitesurfing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, water skiing, and stand-up paddle boarding.

This product is resistant to winds up to 20 km/h when the base is buried in the sand to a depth of 25 cm.
Using the orange spiral base (purchased separately) can increase the wind resistance by an extra 10 km/h.
When the side walls are assembled and the pockets filled with sand, the parasol is securely held in place (with the base buried in the sand and the pole tilted) and can withstand winds of up to 20 km/h in this inclined position, with its back to the wind.

The main fabric offers UV protection with a UPF index of over 50, blocking out 98% of rays. However, this cap is not certified anti-UV because it doesn’t cover the neck and its mesh fabric vents let some UV rays through.

Does this cap protect against UV rays?

After washing it 3 times in the machine and air-drying, we submerge the cap in water and measure the time it takes for it to return to its original weight. It gets an excellent 5-star score, returning to its initial weight in less than 80 minutes.

How to assess the drying speed

Both light and thin, this cap is mainly made of polyethylene. Its flexibility and elasticity make it compact and easy to store in a bag.

Step 1: Tuck the down or lining inside the down jacket.
Step 2: Clean the torn area with water and leave to dry.

Step 3: Peel the patch from its white backing and apply it over the tear.

Step 4: Remove the air bubbles by pressing from the centre towards the edges of the patch.

Step 5: Carefully remove the remaining clear film.

Step 6: Leave to rest for 15 minutes.

Directions for use

Choose a patch that’s large enough to cover at least 1 cm (0.4”) around the tear. If you have to cut it, opt for rounded corners. Avoid placing it directly over seams if possible.

Our advice for making the repair last
