The properties of wool

The merino wool, from Spain, has been a carefully selected breed for generations because of its wool. It provides a softer fibre than traditional wool. After shearing, the wool is cleaned to remove impurities, then carded, spun, and finally used for knitting or weaving.

Merino wool offers an unbeatable experience: soft, lightweight, and breathable. Thanks to its fine fibres, it provides natural thermal regulation. It keeps your feet warm in cool weather and cool in warm weather.

What are the benefits of merino wool?

To stay warm when hiking in the winter, we recommend: 
Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool). 
Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable.
Boot height: the height of your socks should correspond to the height of the boot—for more protection, choose higher socks.

Why have we chosen the push pin? We want to make adjusting your poles easy. This system is simple, reliable, light, and cost-effective.

Why oversized tubes? Because this model is designed for walkers who want a reliable pole. Why a straight foam handle? Because our field tests have shown that foam is more comfortable than a plastic handle.

Design

While holding the grip of your pole, your arm should bend at a 90-degree angle.
To do this: 
Pull on the lower part until the automatic push-pin system locks into place.
- Slide the tube from the middle until the upper push-pin reaches the desired hole. 
- Use the line printed on the lower tube to align the button with the holes.
Never go past the "Stop" line to avoid breaking the pole.

How to adjust your poles to the correct length

This hiking pole is designed to help you balance, propel yourself, and distribute weight between your arms and legs.
For safety, make sure your pole is locked in place with a few firm taps, both before you leave and at regular intervals. Don’t put it on your backpack in a storm.
Some users are sensitive to the whistling noise that can occur when the wind sweeps through the adjustment holes.

Directions for use

Proper maintenance of your pole will ensure that it functions optimally and that it lasts longer.
After use, if water has penetrated the pole, remove the strands and allow them to dry. If necessary, clean the dust or mud with water or a dry brush. Once dry, you can reassemble the strands.
Do not oil or grease the mechanisms.

Care instructions

Decathlon sells hiking and trekking poles individually. This is because they are used in different ways. Some people prefer to use only one pole. If someone uses a pair and one pole breaks, they can replace one broken pole without having to buy a new pair.

Fill with water between -20°C and 40°C. Do not fill with alcohol or dairy, etc.
In temperatures below 0°C, blow into the mouthpiece after use to flush out the water and reduce the risk of water freezing in the tube and mouthpiece.
Remove the air from your water bladder by turning the bladder and then directing the air bubbles to the tube while suctioning them.

Slider to fully open bladder and facilitate cleaning.

Clean the bladder and pipette after each use with standard dishwashing liquid. Use the Btwin brush and drying hanger kit (code: 631585), especially if you had a sugary drink. Do not leave liquid in the water bladder for longer than 24 hours. Do not put in the dishwasher or microwave.

Rinse the entire product 3 times with clean water before the first use.

Water repellency is a fabric’s capacity to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. It prevents the fabric from soaking up water, keeping it lightweight, warm, and breathable. Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. The garment should be retreated over its lifespan (recommended after each wash). Products for this purpose (spray or liquid) are available in our stores.

What is water repellency and how can you maintain it?

The inside fabric is brushed—a tried-and-tested method for retaining heat. The principle is simple: the knit component is designed to trap air, which acts as a natural insulator, keeping the body warm. Animal fur and feathers work on exactly the same principle. 

How can I be sure that these pants are warm enough for winter hiking?

The slim fit and stretchy fabric provide essential freedom of movement. The zipped pockets keep personal items secure (tissues, lip balm, keys, etc.).

In winter, protection from both moisture (snow, rain) and wind is important, because wind can significantly cool the body. The windproof, water-repellent outer fabric was designed to handle all winter conditions. We also added attachments to keep moisture out.

How do these pants protect from outdoor conditions?

Whatever your cold-weather activity, use the three-layer technique:
Layer 1: A high-tech base layer to wick moisture away from the body and keep your skin dry.
 Layer 2: A fleece jacket or sweater to provide warmth and transfer moisture outward.
 Layer 3: A jacket to protect against the elements (rain, snow, and wind). 
To eliminate moisture, the whole outfit must be breathable.
