This garment has been subjected to a shower test using 60 L of water/sqm/hour for 2 hours. This test reproduces the average conditions of a rain shower in the mountains.
A waterproof rating of 5,000 mm means the fabric can withstand pressure exerted by 5,000 mm of water (the equivalent of a rain shower lasting for two hours).
 Waterproofing is expressed in Schmerbers (for example: 5,000 Schmerbers).

Component breathability is measured using thermal evaporative resistance (RET). 
RET refers to a fabric’s capacity to let perspiration evaporate. 
The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric.

Component breathability

A fabric is water-repellent when water slides off its surface without being absorbed. It prevents the fabric from soaking up water, keeping it lightweight, warm, and breathable. Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment’s lifetime (every 3 washes).

The fabric’s water resistance is measured in water column mm (JIS Standard 1092). The higher the value, the more waterproof the fabric. This garment has passed an intense shower test: 60 l/m²/hour for one hour, simulating a shower in the mountains.

Waterproof fabric

The JIS L 1099 B1 test measures the water vapour passing through a fabric over 24 hours, in grams per m². The higher this value, the more breathable the fabric. Performance of 5,000 g/m²/24 hrs is very good for your children’s hikes.

Breathable material

The jacket can be stored in its own pouch for easy transport.
It’s fitted with a zippered centre opening, a hood, as well as elasticated cuffs and waistband for optimal handling and enhanced wind protection.

Practical and compact

Nothing could be easier for maintaining the jacket’s waterproofing capacity. Reactivate the protective layer every 3 washes or after 10 uses in the rain. Either: 15 minutes in a tumble drier, or with a hair dryer held 20 cm away.

What size should I choose?

Have your tween try on both boots while standing up, with the socks worn for hiking. 
Check two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot while going down. During your first few outings, gradually have them try them out to get used to them.

Thermal tests are carried out based on skin temperature measured from the finger to capture the wearer’s thermal comfort depending on the glove worn and the outdoor temperature. This is based on skiing and hiking activity.
The temperature range is calculated to provide 70% of users with thermal comfort.

How will these gloves keep my child’s hands warm?

Fleece is designed to trap air thanks to the volume created by its texture. This air acts as a natural insulator, keeping the body warm. It is the brushing of the knit fabric that traps the air.

How does the fleece protect from the cold?

In the same way that wearing several layers of clothing keeps you warm when hiking, you can wear liner gloves under your gloves to keep your hands warm. This multi-layer system creates air pockets around your hands, efficiently insulating them from the cold.
Remember to wear large enough gloves so your fingers do not become constricted. Compression reduces blood circulation and can make your hands colder.

How to effectively protect your hands from the cold

When active, your body generates heat that’s trapped by your clothing’s thermal insulation. If the clothing is inadequate, your body cools and the blood flow to the hands and feet drops in order to keep your upper body warm. Your outfit therefore has a role to play in keeping your hands as warm as possible.
If you’re unsure about size, it’s always better to choose a pair of gloves that are slightly too big.

How to keep your hands warm with the right clothing

If this happens then dry them in a dry place but avoid placing them on a heat source. Heat can damage the fabric and cause them to lose their shape.

The resistance of a fabric is measured by the height of a water column in mm that can be supported by the fabric (test based on the JIS 1092 standard).The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. 
A component with an impermeability of 5,000 mm will therefore withstand the pressure exerted by 5,000 mm of water (which corresponds roughly to a 1-hour downpour). Waterproofing is expressed in Schmerber units (for example: 5,000 Schmerbers). This number applies before washing.

A coating applied to the fabric makes it waterproof and windproof. Technically, a waterproof fabric is also windproof. Protection from the wind is critical, as wind can chill the body during physical activity.

Certified sole grip. 
To earn certification, the shoes must pass lab tests to assess their grip on different surfaces (smooth, rough, dry, wet). 
These tests are validated by a panel of testers who evaluate the quality of our soles out in the mountains across 500 km (311 miles).

Sole grip

Tested both in the lab and in the field, the waterproofing and breathability of this footwear are guaranteed. The shoe is first immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on its surface. Next, the shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking, half immersed in water to ensure that the inside remains perfectly dry.
For this model, the test lasted the equivalent of 8 km (5 miles) under the conditions mentioned above.

Waterproofing test

A shoe’s waterproofing is often undermined by water getting in from the top of the shoe. To keep your feet drier for longer, we recommend using waterproof gaiters or mini-gaiters to keep out water, pebbles, mud, sand, etc. The shoes’ waterproof treatment will eventually wear off. You’ll need to apply a waterproofing spray several times a year.

Making waterproofing last longer

For hiking, it’s best to go one size up from your child’s usual shoe size. This will ensure optimal comfort on the way down and prevent the toes from hitting the end the shoe. Tip: keep toenails short and, before any descent, check that the straps and/or laces are properly fastened to prevent the foot from slipping forward in the shoe.

Allow children to try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks they will be wearing while hiking. Check two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot while standing on a downward incline. Avoid all pressure points when trying shoes on.
Break your shoes in gradually during your first few hikes.
