These pants have water-repellent inserts (front of leg, seat) so water slides off the fabric’s surface. This product is water-repellent, not waterproof.

The water repellency prevents the pants from getting wet too quickly. However, this won’t be enough to keep you dry if you’re in steady rain. For intense rain, you will need a pair of rain pants like the MT 500 Hiking Pants (ref. 8736465).

Water repellency can be reactivated using a water-repellent spray (ref. 8800346).

How water-repellent is the fabric in the reinforced areas of the 2-in-1 MT 500 Hiking Pants?

The 2-in-1 MT 500 Hiking Pants are equipped with: 
- 2 zipped hand pockets
- 2 zipped thigh pockets (and 1 mesh pocket inside the right pocket)

- a durable fabric (198 g/m²) on the areas that need protection from abrasion (seat, bottom of the leg at the front). This fabric is also stretchy, so you can move freely.
- a light, breathable fabric (145 g/m²) on the rest of the pants.
- a very stretchy crotch gusset.

A breathable fleece: what are the benefits?

The breathability of a fabric is measured by its evaporative resistance RET (ISO 11092 standard): The lower this number, the more breathable the fabric. Examples: RET < 9 (very breathable), 9 < RET < 12 (breathable), RET > 20 (low breathability).

What is the RET index?

To guarantee their quality, our products undergo rigorous tests. We check their resistance to pilling, discolouration and repeated washing. The resistance to wear is measured using the Martindale test that subjects a sample of fabric to repeated friction. 2-year guarantee. 

Resistance tested?

To wash your fleece without damaging it, turn it inside out before machine washing at max. 30°C. Adjust spin speed to a maximum of 1,000 rpm and avoid tumble drying to protect the fabric.

To ensure durability, we use a lightweight (150 g/m2) and very tough fabric on the knees and seat for maximum resistance. It is made from polyamide yarns measuring 200 denier on the warp and 320 denier on the weft (denier measures yarn thickness).Indestructible!

These pants have water-repellent inserts (knees, seat) so water slides off the surface. This product is water-repellent, not waterproof.These water-repellent pants won’t get wet too fast, but they don’t keep you dry under steady rain.To do this, you will need a pair of over-pants like the MT 500 Rain Pants (ref.8493660). The water-repellent properties can be restored by warming the pants in a tumble dryer on low heat for 10 minutes.

Test carried out in a laboratory using a thermal hand that reproduces the heat produced by the hand as well as perspiration and wind conditions.

How much extra warmth do these over-gloves provide?

To test the glove fabric’s waterproofing: we measure the resistance of the fabric to water pressure expressed in mm of a water column (test based on Standard ISO 811). The higher the pressure without penetrating the fabric, the more waterproof it is. A material with a waterproof rating of 10,000 mm can therefore withstand the pressure exerted by 10,000 mm of water.

How was the waterproof rating of these over-gloves tested?

Did you know that the wind can make you feel colder? An outdoor temperature of 0°C with a wind speed of 20 km/h feels like -10°C. The windproof components reduce the wind chill resulting from the cooling effect of the wind or apparent wind generated by the sporting activity.

What are the benefits of windproof over-gloves?

Optimize insulation by applying the layering principle. Wearing over-gloves on top of normal gloves creates several layers of air around your hands, effectively insulating them from the cold. To benefit from this, it’s important to wear a suitable pair of gloves to avoid your fingers being constricted. This is because compression slows down blood flow in the fingers, which prevents them from staying warm.

How to effectively protect your hands from the cold

When active, the body generates heat that is preserved by your clothing’s thermal insulation. If the clothing is inadequate, your body cools and the blood flow to the hands and feet drops in order to keep your upper body warm. Your clothing therefore plays a role in keeping your hands warm.

All our gloves are lab-tested on a thermal hand. The temperature ratings (recommended and limit) come from a study with a test panel of 23 walkers exposed to temperatures ranging from 5°C to -20°C and 10 km/h (6 mph) winds. These temperature ratings are only valid in walking conditions.
