Quechua raincoats are developed in our design centre at the foot of Mont Blanc in the Alps. We test them in real and simulated conditions before approving them for you.
Waterproof testing
This hiking raincoat is made with taped seams and coated fabric, providing protection from around 1 hour of rain. At our sports lab in Lille, we tested this coat under a 5m torrent of water to award it a Schmerbers rating of 5,000mm (H2O).
Breathability rating
Breathability is measured in ‘thermal evaporative resistance’ (or how much vapour can escape from the fabric). This coat has a breathability rating of 12 RET, which is perfect for a 2-hour hike at a pace of around 5km/h.

Keeping it rainproof
Reactivating the rainproof membrane is easy. All you need to do is warm the fabric, either in a tumble dryer (15 mins, synthetic cycle) with a hairdryer (from 20cm), or using an iron (on a delicate, no-steam setting). For the best results, repeat this every 12 wears or 3 washes.
Suitability
This coat is designed for active walkers and hikers. It will protect you during 1-2 hour hikes in mild conditions, including up to 1 hour (5,000mm) of rain. It’s windproof against gales up to 70 km/hour, and breathable enough for moderate exertion (a pace of around 5 km/h).
All-over protection
If you’ll be hiking through heavy showers, add the matching Raincut waterproof over-trousers to stay dry without adding extra weight.
