Are these boots warm enough for winter hikes?
The warm, insulated lining protects your feet from the cold. Lab- and field-tested with hikers. We approved the comfort temperature both at rest and while walking, as this can vary significantly (-15°C when stationary and -24°C when walking). We also considered how men and women feel the cold differently.
How do these boots protect from outdoor conditions?
A 100% waterproof mid-height inner shoe protects the part of the foot most in contact with the snow. The textile upper is water-repellent and warm for effective protection against cold and snow.The seams that join the inner shoe and the upper are not waterproof. In very deep snow, water can get in through the seams, resulting in wet feet.
What is the difference between traction and grip?
Traction depends on the number and shape of the lugs. The grip depends on the materials of the sole and the tread pattern, like car tires. Traction optimizes propulsion, prevents slipping when going uphill, and stabilizes the boot. Grip prevents the boot from slipping and skidding on smooth ground or in demanding conditions (rain, snow, and ice).

Boots with SnowContact soles provide maximum grip and traction for hiking in snow. The 3.5-mm lugs are spaced strategically for optimal grip when hiking in snow. The lugs are designed to grip hard snow and evacuate excess water to avoid slipping.

This product was lab-tested by our engineers to ensure your total satisfaction. We tested the following elements: tear resistance of eyelets and straps, bonding, toxicology, abrasion resistance of outsole and upper components, and accelerated aging.
How do I choose the right footwear for hiking in the snow?
To stay warm when hiking in the winter, we recommend the following principles: Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool). Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable. Boot height: the height of the sock should correspond to the height of the boot—for more protection, choose higher socks.
How to preserve the technical qualities of the boots
Water repellency is a fabric’s capacity to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. The fabric does not soak up water and stays light, breathable, and warm. Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. This treatment needs to be reapplied throughout the product’s lifetime. Products for this purpose (spray or liquid) are available in our stores.
How to dry the inside of your boots
Boots can become heavy through condensation and perspiration if you wear them in wet conditions. If your boots are very wet, remove the insole and fill the upper with balls of newspaper, changing the newspaper regularly. The paper will absorb the moisture and dry them faster. Never place your boots too close to a heat source. Leave them in a warm, dry, and ventilated place.
