The temperature ratings (recommended and limit) come from a study with a test panel of 23 walkers exposed to temperatures ranging from 5°C to -20°C and 10 km/h winds. How is usage temperature measured?

Just like you wear several layers of clothing when hiking, you can wear liner gloves under your gloves that will act as a thermal base layer. This multi-layer system enables pockets of air to form around your hands, efficiently insulating them from the cold. Remember to wear large enough gloves so your fingers do not become constricted. Compression reduces blood circulation in the fingers.

When active, the body generates heat that is preserved by your clothing’s thermal insulation. If clothing isn’t warm enough, your body cools down and circulation to your hands and feet drops to keep your core warm. Your clothing therefore plays a role in keeping your hands warm.

How to keep your hands warm with the right clothing

Dexterity refers to your ability to handle objects while wearing gloves. Our MT 500 Hiking Gloves have been rated in a laboratory. The closer the glove’s dexterity is to 5, the easier it is to handle objects while wearing gloves. For example, we tested the MT 500 Hiking Gloves for putting on and opening a jacket, handling objects in a bivouac, and eating and drinking. The MT 500 Hiking Gloves have a dexterity rating of 4 out of 5.

What is a glove’s dexterity?

The MT 500 Hiking Gloves are not windproof.
Did you know that the wind can make you feel colder? An outdoor temperature of 0°C with a wind speed of 20 km/h feels like -10°C. The windproof components reduce the wind chill resulting from the cooling effect of the wind.

We selected a technical yarn with a specific coating (PTFE) at the heel and toe to reduce friction and the risk of blisters. These socks cannot guarantee 100% protection from blisters. Blisters usually form when your skin is weakened by friction from socks, shoes, stones, or sand. Moisture also weakens the skin.

Reducing the risk of rubbing

We offer 3 lengths of hiking socks. Short/low: reach slightly above the shoes but under the ankles. Medium/mid: reach just above the ankles to protect them. These 2 lengths are the right size for low-cut shoes. High: reach just below the calf, perfect for high-top hiking boots.

Each of our sock sizes fits 4 shoes sizes. The stretchy fabric helps the socks mould to your feet and stay in place. Feet come in all shapes and sizes. It’s important to try on your socks before going hiking.

Eco-design

Textile dyeing requires a lot of water but also produces waste water from the dye baths. To reduce the environmental impact, we opted for a dyeing process called “Bi-ton” which involves dyeing one out of two yarns. We use a bulk dyeing process, which involves adding the colour pigments when the yarn itself is produced.This process reduces the CO2 emissions of this sleeping bag liner compared to the former model.
