We perform comparative studies carried out in a thermal laboratory, in walking conditions with light winds (5 km/h). This is how we measure the thermal resistance of our boots. However, every individual feels the cold differently.Comfort temperature: felt slightly cold and 70% of users found their thermal feeling acceptable on the feet.
Limit temperature: felt extremely cold and 10% of users found their thermal feeling acceptable on the feet.

Are these boots warm enough for winter hikes?

These boots have a membrane to guarantee waterproofing and breathability. A membrane is a very fine component (5 to 25 micrometres) on the inside of a fabric that prevents water from entering but allows moisture to escape.

How do these boots protect from outdoor conditions?

We make sure that your boots are waterproof by conducting lab tests to simulate walking with the boots half-submerged in water. We also conduct field tests to measure wear and aging. 

Are my boots 100% waterproof?

The boots’ traction depends on the number and shape of the lugs (4 mm on this boot). The grip depends on the materials of the sole and the tread pattern, like car tires. Traction optimizes propulsion, prevents slipping when going uphill, and stabilizes the boot. 
Grip prevents the boot from slipping and skidding on smooth ground or in demanding conditions (rain, snow, and ice).

What is the difference between traction and grip?

This product was lab-tested by our engineers to ensure your total satisfaction. We tested the following elements: tear resistance of eyelets and straps, bonding, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion resistance of outsole and upper components, and accelerated aging.

Will my boots withstand regular use over the long term?

To be well equipped in winter, we recommend that you follow these guidelines: 
Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool).
 Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable.
Boot height: the height of the sock should correspond to the height of the boot—for more protection, choose higher socks.

How do I choose the right footwear for hiking in the snow?

Water repellency is a fabric’s capacity to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. It prevents the fabric from soaking up water, keeping it lightweight, warm, and breathable. Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. This treatment needs to be reapplied over the product’s lifetime. Products for this purpose (spray or liquid) are available in our stores.

How to preserve the technical qualities of the boots

In use, the boot can become damp (condensation and perspiration).
If the boot is very wet, remove the insole, fill the upper with newspaper balls and change them regularly. The paper will absorb the moisture and dry them faster.
Never put the boots too close to a heat source. Leave them in a warm, dry, and ventilated place.
