We chose an ultra-warm, insulating lining to give you effective protection from the cold. Lab and field tested with hikers in temperatures as low as -38°C. We verified the comfort temperature both at rest and when walking, as this can vary significantly: -14°C when stationary and -24°C when walking. We also considered how men and women feel the chill differently.

Are my boots warm enough for winter hikes?

Your boots are designed with leather and a membrane to guarantee waterproofing and breathability. A membrane is an extremely fine component (5 to 25 micrometres) affixed to the inside of a fabric that prevents water from entering but allows moisture to escape. The high upper with an elastic gaiter protects against the cold and keeps snow out while the midsole provides perfect insulation. Your feet will be protected, warm, and dry.

How do my boots protect me from outdoor conditions?

We made sure that your boots are waterproof by conducting laboratory tests that simulate walking with the boots half-submerged in water. We also conducted field tests to measure wear and aging. 

Are my boots 100% waterproof?

Thermal comfort is a balance between warmth and breathability. Too much heat or not enough breathability lets moisture accumulate and cold set in. A membrane prevents water infiltration on one side and lets moisture escape on the other.

The boot’s traction depends on the number and shape of the treads. The grip depends on the materials of the sole and the tread pattern, like car tires. Traction optimizes propulsion, prevents slipping when going uphill, and stabilizes the boot. 
Grip prevents the boot from slipping and skidding on smooth ground or in demanding conditions (rain, snow, and ice).

What is the difference between traction and grip?

Boots with Snow Contact soles provide maximum grip and traction when hiking on snow. The location and height of the studs (5 mm/0.2”) are strategic for optimal grip when hiking in snow on steep terrain. The studs are designed to grip hard snow and evacuate excess water to avoid slipping.

The material and tread of Snow Contact soles are specifically designed for optimal grip and traction. Snow Contact soles are more effective on snow than traditional soles. When walking on ice, adding crampons to your boots is the only way to ensure optimum safety.

How to preserve the technical qualities of the boots

Boots can become heavy if you wear them in wet conditions (through condensation and perspiration).
If your boots are very wet, remove the insole and fill the upper with balls of newspaper, changing them regularly. The paper will absorb the moisture and dry them faster.
Never place your boots too close to a heat source. Leave them in a warm, dry, and ventilated place instead.

How does it all look, in terms of design and finish?

Our pants are the key to keeping you warm in temperatures as low as -14°C. Their brushed fabric lining traps air and insulates, forming a thermal barrier that keeps body heat in. The windproof fabric increases protection against the cold.

Pants that are designed for winter?

The thermal resistance test shows the loss of heat between the body and the outside, indicating the insulating properties of the product. It can be done on the fabric using thermal probes or clothing with thermal models, measuring the retention of body heat.

How is thermal comfort measured?

When hiking in the winter, snow can get inside your boots. That’s why the lower legs of these pants are tighter, to keep snow out.

How do these pants protect against snow?

These hiking pants are designed with a water-repellent fabric that makes water bead off the surface instead of absorbing into the fabric. You stay dry, even in light rain or damp conditions. For greater protection, we added waterproof reinforcements on the seat and lower legs.

Why choose water-repellent pants?

You must regularly reactivate the water-repellent treatment, ideally after each wash. Suitable products are available as a spray or liquid in our stores and on our website.

We designed these pants with stretch fabric for maximum freedom of movement, so essential when hiking. 
We also fitted them with a wide elastic waistband that covers the hips, lower back, and stomach for maximum comfort on every hike.

A long inner flap beneath the zipper keeps cold air out. The toggle at the hem ensures your parka is comfortable.

Is my parka warm enough for winter hikes?

The parka has a waterproof material that keeps out water and wind. To stay warm in winter, you must also protect your extremities (head, hands, and feet). The covering hood, cuffs, and stand-up collar all help to keep out the cold. The comfortable, fleece-lined handwarmer pockets protect your hands.

How does this parka protect you from outdoor conditions?

The waterproofness of a fabric, provided by a coating or membrane, is measured in Schmerber or mm (pressure exerted by a column of water). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric.
This jacket is made from waterproof material (JIS 1092 standard) resistant to 15,000 mm (Schmerber) before washing. This waterproof parka protects you from a downpour, i.e., 12 cm of rain in 2 hours.
