How does the Merino Rec Fresh T-shirt prevent control odours?

The main merino wool fabric of this T-shirt comes from production off-cuts. These surplus fabrics, which would have been discarded, are given a new life by becoming part of the fabric used to manufacture this T-shirt.

What is special about this T-shirt?

In cool weather, the merino wool (40%) in this T-shirt traps insulating warm air and absorbs up to 35% of its weight in moisture. In hot, dry weather, water that evaporates in the wool absorbs energy, which cools the body slightly.

What are the advantages of merino wool?

We recommend machine washing your merino wool T-shirt at 30°C on a normal cycle, preferably with liquid detergent. Use a special merino wool garment detergent (ref. : 8817234), and leave it to air dry.

Wool fibres can store a lot of air and let water vapour escape, making wool an excellent choice for moisture management and thermal regulation. Wool’s ability to store and release moisture make it an insulating, comfortable material for hiking socks.

The properties of wool

The merino wool, from Spain, has been a carefully selected breed for generations because of its wool. It provides a softer fibre than traditional wool. After shearing, the wool is cleaned to remove impurities, then carded, spun, and finally used for knitting or weaving.

What is merino wool?

Merino wool offers an unbeatable experience: soft, lightweight, and breathable. Thanks to its fine fibres, it provides natural thermal regulation. It keeps your feet warm in cool weather and cool in warm weather.

What are the benefits of merino wool?

To stay warm when hiking in the winter, we recommend: 
- Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool). 
- Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable.
- Boot height: the height of your socks should correspond to the height of the boot: for more protection, choose higher socks.

How do I choose the right footwear for hiking in the snow?

How to correctly select hiking socks

To warm up, the warmers need oxygen and humidity.

Open the bag, shake it, and wait 10 min. Activate it at room temperature.

Fast acting

Blow on the warmer for faster activation, especially at 0°C or over 2,000 m

1. Remove the warmer from the package and shake it 5–6 times to activate the heating process.
2. Wait for 10 minutes, since the warmer must be fully warm before it is put in a confined space (pocket, glove, etc.).
3. Ideally, activate them in an ambient environment of 20°C (at home, in the car, etc.).
4. At 0°C or above 2,000 m altitude, blow on them several times. The warmth and moisture of your breath will accelerate the reaction.

Heating instructions

The warmer is a mix of activated charcoal powder and iron that produces heat through oxidation. 
The reaction stops:
- When all the activated charcoal is gone. The reaction stops completely after about 5 to 6 hours.
- In an airtight space (in a rubber boot or with neoprene cycling overshoes). 
The reaction starts when the warmer is exposed to air.

How it works

Hand warmers should only be used for your hands and should not be used on other parts of the body.

Restrictions

Children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities should use this product with caution and supervision.
Persons who have diabetes, delicate or sensitive skin, circulation problems, paralysis, damaged nerves, rheumatoid arthritis, are pregnant, or who have any concerns should consult a physician before using the product.
Do not apply to frostbitten or desensitized skin. 
Do not use while sleeping. 
Do not use in combination with topical analgesics or heating devices.

Precautions

The exothermic reaction begins on the production line:
- The mixture is activated, then checked 
- Once inspected and validated, the pair of hand warmers is inserted in the plastic packet, which stops the reaction and therefore the heat generation. The reaction will start again when the pack is opened and the warmer is exposed to oxygen and humidity.

Good to know

This means that the reaction is suppressed by lack of air. Just remove the warmer and knead it or blow on it to begin the heating process again. You can then put it back in your glove or pocket.

What should I do if my warmer stops heating after an hour or so?
What if it doesn’t get warm enough?

The warmer may not be working properly because of:
- a lack of air (if it is enclosed in neoprene, for example).
- extreme conditions: in extreme cold, the warmer provides warmth in addition to the ambient temperature. However, it may not sufficiently warm up in extremely low temperatures.
- an altitude exceeding 3,000 m, where a lack of oxygen limits the reaction.

Troubleshooting

The exothermic reaction consumes the activated charcoal and oxidizes the iron. Once the fuel is spent, the reaction ends and the powder becomes hard.
