All our gloves are lab-tested on a thermal hand. The temperature ratings (recommended and limit) come from a study with a test panel of 23 hikers exposed to temperatures ranging from 5°C to -20°C and 10 km/h (6 mph) winds. These temperature ratings are only valid in hiking conditions.
The MT 500 Fleece Gloves have been given a warmth rating of 1 out of 5.

How is usage temperature measured?

Optimize insulation by applying the layering principle. Wearing liner gloves in addition to gloves creates several air pockets that effectively insulate your hands from the cold. The gloves must be big enough not to compress your fingers. This is because compression slows down blood flow in the fingers, which prevents them from staying warm.

Wool fibres can store a lot of air and let water vapour escape, making wool an excellent choice for moisture management and thermal regulation. Wool’s ability to store and release moisture make it an insulating, comfortable material for hiking socks.

The properties of wool

The merino wool, from Spain, has been a carefully selected breed for generations because of its wool. It provides a softer fibre than traditional wool. After shearing, the wool is cleaned to remove impurities, then carded, spun, and finally used for knitting or weaving.

What is merino wool?

Merino wool offers an unbeatable experience: soft, lightweight, and breathable. Thanks to its fine fibres, it provides natural thermal regulation. It keeps your feet warm in cool weather and cool in warm weather.

What are the benefits of merino wool?

To stay warm when hiking in the winter, we recommend: 
- Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool). 
- Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable.
- Boot height: the height of your socks should correspond to the height of the boot: for more protection, choose higher socks.

All Wedze gloves and mittens have a water-repellent treatment that makes water slide across the fabric’s surface instead of being absorbed. This means the fabric does not become saturated. It remains light and warm. A treatment applied to the outer surface makes the fabric water repellent. To remain effective, this treatment must be renewed every 2 to 3 washes with specific products that are available in our stores.

The mitten’s waterproof membrane consists of a very thin polymer film placed between the lining and the part of the glove in contact with the environment. This membrane acts as a barrier to make the product waterproof. The product’s exterior materials are also treated for water repellency. Only a rubber-type glove is watertight. Under extremely wet conditions, a glove with a membrane will have limited waterproofness.

How comfortable is this backpack?

This backpack is water-repellent. In light rain, water will roll off without penetrating it. However, it is not completely waterproof. If the rain goes on too long or is too heavy, water will seep through. For extra protection, choose our 10–20 L rain cover (ref. 8772113).

The BL 500 ski base layer has a standard straight cut that adapts to all body shapes. It’s not too loose, so it keeps in the heat effectively.

Polyester is the most commonly-used fibre for base garments because it is relatively inexpensive and offers excellent performance in various respects, and especially because the fibres can be knitted to obtain a very lightweight and durable fabric. It actively absorbs moisture but does not dry particularly well when wet.

For warmth, we used insulating fill (60 m²g/m²). This synthetic, polyester-based lining traps air according to the size of the fibres to keep you warm.

Which fabrics are used to make my pants warm?

We lab test our products to provide you with a comfort indicator. The comfort indicator is measured without tights for pants, and with a thermal T-shirt and a fleece for jackets. The temperature indicated is the external temperature at which the testers were neither warm nor cold. Of course, the perceived temperature varies depending on the intensity of the activity and each individual’s metabolism.

How is comfort temperature measured?

The regular fit allows the pants to be combined with a technical base layer.

What is the fit of the 100 Ski Pants?

The resistance of a fabric is measured by the height of a water column in mm. The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. Fabric with a waterproof rating of 5,000 mm is resistant to the pressure exerted by a 5,000 mm column of water.
For skiing, we recommend fabrics rated 5,000 to 20,000 mm. At Decathlon, we lab test all of our waterproof products. This product's rating is?/ 5 In a shower test.

How is your pants’ water resistance measured?

These pants have elastic gaiters at the ankles to cover your boots. The seal created by the gaiters keeps the snow out.

How can I prevent snow from getting in my pants?

To optimize your product’s performance and durability: 
*Machine wash at 30°C on a synthetics cycle. 
*Turn the product inside out.
*Use a small amount of detergent. Do not use fabric softener.
*Wring by hand. 
*Dry on a hanger in a warm, well-ventilated place.
Do not dry clean. Do not place on a radiator.

How should I wash my pants?

We commit to repairing your product free of charge for the duration of the warranty. If you need the seams, zippers, or another element repaired, contact your store. However, if we can’t repair your product (production defect), we will exchange it or reimburse you.
