Play 3 skates: celebrating 8 years of helping young skaters :)
We’re very proud about reaching our 8th birthday! Thanks to customer feedback, we’ve been able to improve these skates constantly. For example, you gave us the idea of a “stability kit”: a small screw at the back of the skate, aligning the wheels like a tricycle. It's really simple to use so kids find learning to skate much easier. More recently, we’ve improved the skate’s fastening clips. So we say a big thank you!
Optional stability kit (product ref. 8282768)
The hardware kit, also called the “stability kit”, can be fitted to Play 3 and Play 5 inline skates of any size. This “stability kit” lets kids start in “tricycle” mode: it’s the ideal way to increase stability on their first few rides to build up confidence. The kit is pre-fitted on all PLAY3 inline skates, size 8C–9.5C.
The technical stuff: wheels and bearings.
Although more experienced riders will have ABEC 1–7 bearings, these skates have bearings more suited to young beginners for a smooth, safe ride. Basically, these skates glide more slowly. The wheels measure 63 mm.
Safety Precautions
We recommend wearing a helmet, elbow and knee pads, and wrist guards. You never know when you’re going to take a tumble!
Rubber or plastic wheels and brakes?
Unlike plastic, which skids but doesn’t brake, the rubber on these 63 mm wheels provides good traction. This prevents slipping when your child pushes off and helps them brake effectively. Even better, rubber wears less quickly than plastic. Our teams work hard to keep your child safe, no matter their experience level. That’s why we chose to equip all our kids’ skates with rubber wheels and brakes.
Maximize Wheel Lifespan
Some parts of the wheels will wear out more quickly, so rotate their positions regularly. Replace them once they’ve worn down to the first of the seven visible rings.
Spare Parts
You can get wheels of all sizes and colours (even glow-in-the-dark ones), brakes, and screws on our website or at your local Decathlon workshop. All parts are easy to install. Don’t forget to check out services available at our in-store workshops: https://www.decathlon.ca/en/content/store-workshops
Size Adjustment
See the little tongue on the front of the boot? Simply move the rip-tab to the number desired. 1 for the smallest size, 2 for the middle size, and 3 for the largest. The space at the front of the foot is then freed up, thus gaining 2 sizes. Clever, eh?
How do we test our skates?
All of our skates undergo lab testing. These tests confirm compliance with the European standards and assess wear and tear. We also do field tests—some measured and others based on the testers’ opinions. The result is a product tested, proven, and approved by many users, including those from our partner skating clubs!
