How will this jacket keep my child warm?
This jacket was developed for winter conditions such as cold, snow, and blizzards. The heat comes from the thick filling (double layer on the body), a synthetic insulating component thanks to the air stored in its fibres. A wide quilted inner flap underneath the main zipper stops cold air from entering. According to our laboratory test, 70% of kids experienced thermal comfort at -17°C. However, every individual feels the cold differently.
How does the jacket keep my child warm and dry?
This jacket was designed with a waterproof outer material that prevents water and wind from getting inside. To stay warm in winter, it is important to protect the head, hands, and feet. The storm hood with detachable synthetic fur, storm cuffs and a stand-up collar prevent the cold from getting inside.
Waterproofness
The waterproofness of a jacket isn’t just limited to its components: the assembly technique also makes a difference. Whether heat-sealed or sewn then waterproofed, this jacket’s overall waterproofness is measured using a shower test developed by Decathlon, which simulates rain of different intensities. This waterproof parka protects you from a downpour, i.e., 12 cm (4.7”) of rain in 2 hours.
Component waterproofing
The waterproofness of a fabric, provided by a coating or membrane, is measured in Schmerbers or mm water (pressure exerted by a column of water). The higher this number, the more watertight the fabric. This product has a waterproof component resistant to 5,000 mm water (Schmerber) before washing.
What does “100% taped seams” mean?
Taped seams make the jacket completely waterproof. The seams of a garment are made watertight by adding adhesive waterproof strips on the inside, which prevent water from getting through. The waterproofing is verified via a test that replicates the conditions of a two-hour rain shower. Kids then tested its performance during a hike.
A practical parka with smart details
Practical and smart details: 2 outer pockets with flaps, 1 secure inner pocket for storing essentials such as your phone, 2 mesh inner pockets to store gloves, etc. The main zipper has a pull and the snaps have thumb loops: kids can open and close the zipper without removing their gloves.
Can I wash this jacket regularly without damaging it?
Durability tests are conducted on selected components: resistance to rubbing and abrasion, colourfastness, and resistance to repeated washing. Washing the faux fur on the hood is not recommended. The hood can be removed before washing the jacket. If absolutely necessary, wash the fur by hand and then air dry.
Choosing the right clothing for hiking in the snow
Whatever your cold-weather activity, use the three-layer technique: Layer 1: A high-tech base layer to wick moisture away from the body and keep your skin dry. Layer 2: A fleece jacket or sweater to provide warmth and transfer moisture outward. Layer 3: A jacket to protect against the elements (rain, snow, and wind). To eliminate moisture, the whole outfit must be breathable.
How to preserve the technical qualities of this jacket
Care products: spray or liquid water-repellent treatment in the washing machine. We recommend using these products every wash to renew the fabric’s water-repellent properties and optimize the garment’s performance throughout its lifetime.
How to look after your product
To care for your product, we recommend closing the zippers when washing. Machine wash at 30°C, normal cycle. Do not use bleach. Tumble dry on medium heat. Do not iron. Do not dry clean. Always dry this garment thoroughly before storing it in a dry place away from light. Avoid using chemicals such as bleach, which could affect the garment’s colour and thermal insulation.
