How will this jacket keep my child warm?
We carried out a comparative study in a thermal laboratory in walking conditions in light winds (5 km/h). The comfort temperature is the calculated air temperature where 70% of users have a slightly warm thermal sensation. For this jacket, it’s -6.5°C. However, every individual feels the cold differently.
How does this jacket protect you from outdoor conditions?
Your jacket is made using a waterproof material that keeps out water and wind. To stay warm in winter, you must also protect your extremities (head, hands, feet). The warm hood, fastenings at the cuffs, and high collar keep the cold out. Four pockets protect your hands from the cold.
How to dress properly for hiking in cold weather
Whatever your cold-weather activity, use the three-layer technique: Layer 1: A high-tech base layer to wick moisture away from the body and keep your skin dry. Layer 2: A fleece jacket or sweater to provide warmth and transfer moisture outward. Layer 3: A jacket to protect against the elements (rain, snow, and wind). To eliminate moisture, the whole outfit must be breathable.
Waterproofness
The waterproofness of a jacket isn’t just limited to its components: the assembly technique also makes a difference. Whether heat-sealed or sewn then waterproofed, this parka’s overall waterproofness is measured using a shower test developed by Decathlon, which simulates rain of different intensities. This waterproof jacket protects you from a shower, i.e., 6 cm of rain in 1 hour.
Component waterproofing
The waterproofness of a fabric, provided by a coating or membrane, is measured in Schmerber or mm water (pressure exerted by a column of water). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric. This product has a waterproof fabric resistant to 15,000 mm water or Schmerber before washing.
What does “100% taped seams” mean?
The seams of a jacket can be taped to keep water out. The main seams of this jacket are taped, just like the seams of the hood, collar, shoulders, armholes, and chest.
Windproof
A coating or membrane is applied inside to make the fabric waterproof and windproof. Technically, a waterproof fabric qualifies as windproof. Wind protection is very important due to the significant chilling effect wind can have on the body.
How to preserve the technical qualities of your jacket
Water repellency is a fabric’s capacity to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. It prevents the fabric from soaking up water, keeping it lightweight, warm, and breathable. Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. The garment should be retreated over its lifespan (recommended after each wash).
