1 - Choosing the right size
Choose ski size according to your weight and not ski length. 550 Cross-Country Skis: Medium camber - 45 to 55 kg (99 to 121 lbs) = 174 cm - 50 to 65 kg (110 to 143 lbs) = 181 cm - 60 to 75 kg (132 to 165 lbs) = 188 cm Hard camber - 75 to 90 kg (165 to 198 lbs) = 188 cm - 90 to 110 kg (198 to 220 lbs) = 193 cm It’s important to take your skill level into account—a long ski optimizes glide and speed
2 - A sintered base for superior slide
The base is the part of the ski in contact with the snow. It is made of polyethylene (HDPE), which can be extruded or sintered during the manufacturing process. The sintered base of the 550 Cross-Country Skis is made from high molecular weight plastic powder that is heated, compressed, and cut into slabs. This process produces a denser base and delivers superior glide and durability.
3 - Xcelerator bindings: the technology to increase your speed!
All our skis are sold with Rottefella bindings that are compatible with the NNN, Prolink, and Turnamic standards. 550 Cross-Country Skis are fitted with Rottefella Xcelerator Pro bindings. Easily move the binding without tools to adapt it to your needs. The move system lets you move the binding without unstrapping.
4 - Waxing: the key to durability!
When buying skis, we recommend that you prepare the base well to achieve an optimum glide. Several consecutive waxings are best to “nourish” the base properly. To maintain performance, remember to wax your skis regularly! Check out tutorials on our Inovik YouTube channel on how to wax your skis.
Glossary—ski construction
Our skis are made using a “sandwich” structure: different materials are layered in the core of the ski and across its entire width. The final product is assembled with a press. The core is the centre of the ski: wooden (solid or with channels) or composite (honeycomb or Nomex®) The base is the part in contact with snow: it is made of sintered or extruded high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Grip is the grip area under the ski Sidecuts are the width of a ski at the nose, waist, and tail.
