Our Saga Wilder:
Our Wilder range has 3 skis with different widths: 85 / 95 / 102 to offer a skate width for every type of cross-country skier. The Wilder 85, which remains the most versatile width for all types of terrain, is the ideal ski for beginning cross-country skiing off the beaten track. The Wilder 95, with its straighter lines for maximum grip on overhangs and steep slopes. The Wilder 102, for freeriders looking for valleys.
Features
175 cm ski weight: 1,350 g (ski only)/1,675 g (pack) 185 cm ski weight: 1,440 g (ski only)/1,765 g (pack) Sidecuts: 185 cm => 133 / 102 / 118 cm Radius => 22 m Profile: Rocker/Camber/Rocker
Bindings
Cross-country ski bindings with Tyrolia Almonte 12 insert. Weight: 325 g (with ski brakes) 60 mm adjustment range. DIN adjustment on the rear stop: from 5 to 12. If you want to remove the ski brake, you need to remove the rear cleat from the binding, remove the ski brake and put a plastic piece in place that provides good support on the binding. (Choose among three levels of thickness, the one that best fits the thickness of your boot.)
Ascent / Descent bindings
Ascent: To lock the ski brake, turn toward the right and a quarter turn of the rear stop, then press with the boot on the plastic part. You can easily switch between the three riser positions (one flat and two climbing positions) using a ski pole and without taking the boots out of the bindings. The stiffer the slope, the higher the cleats. Descent: Return to the initial position of the rear stop, by making a reverse quarter turn.
Binding adjustment:
Tyrolia Almonte bindings are compatible with insert ski boots. Ski length = 175 cm / Binding adjustment for boot length from 262 to 320 mm Ski length = 185 cm / Binding adjustment for boot length from 282 to 340 mm A Philips screwdriver is needed for adjustment. We recommend opting for adjustments made in the shop to ensure the correct distance between the back of your boot and the binding.
Ski skins
The skins are precut to fit the sidecuts of the skis. Made of 70% mohair and 30% synthetic material for the ideal balance between gliding performance (when climbing in order to save energy) and grip (when climbing to avoid backsliding). The skins come with a metal clip on the front to fit most ski tips and an adjustable camlock on the back to fasten the skin to the tail of the ski. Let your skins thoroughly in the open air.
Structure
Made from Paulownia carbon: the Wilder 102 are made from high-quality materials, combining the light weight of Paulownia wood with the durability of carbon. This combination provides both solid and extremely light skis, ideal for free cross-country skiers who favour efficiency during fast climbs in the mountains without compromising on lift.
Durability
Semi-cap construction helps avoid chipping when your skis cross. Predominantly black soles for excellent glide and easy repairs.
Preparation
Ready-to-use waxed and sharpened skis. Edge sharpened to 89°.
What is a camber?
The skis make contact with the ground near the tip and tail, while the waist (under the bindings) is slightly raised (this is the camber). The longer and higher the camber, the greater the edge grip, and the more responsive the ski. The lower the camber, the more forgiving the ski and the better the handling.
What is the rocker?
On a rocker ski, the nose, and sometimes the tail, comes off the ground much sooner than with a cambered ski. This moves the point of contact toward the centre of the ski. The surface of the skis in contact with the snow is shortened: they handle better and have more buoyancy on soft snow. When leaning into turns, the edge length offers more grip on hardpack. A longer rocker improves the way the skis handle.
What are ski sidecuts?
The sidecut is determined by 3 measurements: the width of the tip (front of ski), the waist (middle of ski) and tail (back of ski). The wider the tip, the easier the turn entry. The narrower the waist, the stronger the grip on hardpack. The wider the waist, the more comfortable and stable the ski in different snow conditions.
How do I choose my ski size?
Skis are more responsive the shorter they are. That’s why less adventurous skiers should choose shorter skis. For ski touring, we generally recommend you choose skis between 5 cm and 10 cm less than your height. The heavier or more powerful you are, the longer your ski can be. For free cross-country use, it can be raised up to 5 cm above the waist.
Pack
Complete pack: the Wilder 102 is sold as a full pack, including cross-country bindings and high-quality skins. The bindings have been carefully selected to ensure optimal performance and compatibility with the ski, providing precise control and comfort when climbing. The skins provide optimal grip when climbing, allowing you to adventure with confidence on the most varied terrain.
For whom has the Wilder 102 been designed?
Whether you’re an expert hiker looking for technical performance or a mountain enthusiast looking to push your limits, the Wilder 102 is the ideal companion. Its lightweight Paulownia carbon construction, versatile 22-metre radius and ski skin binding system at the tail make it a reliable, high-performance cross-country and free cross-country style ski, suitable for fast ascents and descents in powder.
Binding / Crampon compatibility
The Tyrolia Almonte binding is compatible with crampons from the brands: Tyrolia / Wedze / Dynafit
