These warm, waterproof boots are ideal for snowshoeing
With a limit temperature up to -27°C, the warm and insulating materials provide good protection against snow and cold. Lab and field tested with hikers. We also verified the comfort temperature both at rest and walking because this varies a lot: -4°C when stationary and -13°C when walking. We considered how men and women feel the cold differently.
How do my boots protect me from outdoor conditions?
A membrane ensures optimal water resistance. A membrane is a very fine component (between 5 and 25 micrometres) affixed to the inside of a fabric that prevents water from infiltrating while letting moisture escape. These boots keep your feet warm and dry. The sole insulates against contact with snow.
Breathable boots for optimal thermal comfort
Thermal comfort is a balance between warmth and breathability. Too much heat or not enough breathability lets moisture accumulate and cold set in. A membrane prevents water infiltration on one side and lets moisture escape on the other.
Are my boots 100% waterproof?
We made sure that your boots are waterproof by conducting laboratory tests to simulate walking with the boots half submerged in water. We also conducted field tests to measure wear and aging.
What is the difference between traction and grip?
The boot’s traction depends on the number and shape of the treads. The grip depends on the materials of the sole and the tread pattern, like car tires. Traction optimizes propulsion, prevents slipping when going uphill, and stabilizes the boot. Grip prevents the boot from slipping and skidding on smooth ground or in demanding conditions (rain, snow, and ice).
What are the advantages of SnowContact technology?
The SnowContact soles are designed using a specific component and lug pattern (5 mm) to provide the best possible grip and traction. SnowContact soles are more effective on snow than traditional soles. When walking on ice, adding crampons to your boots is the only way to ensure optimum safety.
Why is support important in a hiking boot?
The support provided by your boots is essential for your walking comfort. Good support optimizes your ascent and descent over hilly terrain, prevents your feet from sliding in the boots, and reduces blisters. These boots save you energy, reducing fatigue. This is especially important when snowshoeing.
Are your boots suitable for snowshoeing?
We designed these boots for hiking on snow, with or without snowshoes. The upper of the shoe (mid-height) combined with gaiters (external or integrated in the pants) helps keep snow out. The support and rigidity are suited to snowshoeing.
Will my boots withstand regular use in the long term?
This product was lab-tested by our engineers to ensure your total satisfaction. We tested the following elements: tear resistance of eyelets and straps, bonding, toxicology, abrasion resistance of outsole and upper components, and accelerated aging.
How do I choose the right footwear for hiking in the snow?
To stay warm when hiking in the winter, we recommend the following principles: Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool). Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable. Boot height: the height of the sock should correspond to the height of the boot—for more protection, choose higher socks.
How to preserve the technical qualities of the boots
Water repellency is a fabric’s capacity to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. The fabric does not soak up water and stays light, breathable, and warm. Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. This treatment needs to be reapplied throughout the product’s lifetime. Products for this purpose (spray or liquid) are available in our stores.
How to dry the inside of your boots
Boots can become heavy if you wear them in wet conditions (through condensation and perspiration). If your boots are very wet, remove the insole and fill the upper with balls of newspaper, changing them regularly. The paper will absorb the moisture and dry them faster. Never place your boots too close to a heat source. Leave them in a warm, dry, and ventilated place instead.
