Are my boots warm enough for winter hikes?
With a limit temperature up to -27°C, they keep your feet warm at -7°C when standing still and -16°C when moving. This gives you an accurate measure of the temperature at which these boots protect you. The comfort temperature ratings for your boots are displayed. We take into account that people perceive the cold differently.
How do my boots protect me from outdoor conditions?
These boots have a membrane to guarantee waterproofing and breathability. A membrane is a very fine component (5 to 25 micrometres) on the inside of a fabric that prevents water from entering, but allows moisture to escape.
Breathable boots for optimal thermal comfort
Thermal comfort is a balance between warmth and breathability. Too much heat or not enough breathability lets moisture accumulate and cold set in. Designed with your activities in mind, this membrane prevents water infiltration on one side and lets moisture escape on the other.
Are my boots 100% waterproof?
We made sure that your boots are waterproof by conducting laboratory tests that simulate walking with the boots half-submerged in water. We also conducted field tests to measure wear and aging.
What is the difference between traction and grip?
The boot’s traction depends on the number and shape of the treads. The grip depends on the materials of the sole and the tread pattern, like car tires. Traction optimizes propulsion, prevents slipping when going uphill, and stabilizes the boot. Grip prevents the boot from slipping and skidding on smooth ground or in demanding conditions (rain, snow, and ice).
How much grip and traction does this boot provide?
The Snow Contact soles provide maximum grip comfort for hiking and traction on snow. The strategical spacing and height of the lugs (3 mm/0.12”) offer optimal grip when hiking on snow. They provide optimal grip on hard snow and evacuate excess water to prevent you from slipping.
What are the advantages of Snow Contact technology?
The material and tread of Snow Contact soles are specifically designed for optimal grip and traction. Snow Contact soles are more effective on snow than traditional soles. When walking on ice, adding crampons to your boots is the only way to ensure optimum safety.
Will my boots withstand regular use in the long term?
This product was lab-tested by our engineers to ensure your total satisfaction. We tested the following elements: tear resistance of eyelets and straps, bonding, toxicology, abrasion resistance of outsole and upper components, and accelerated aging.
How do I choose the right footwear for hiking in the snow?
To stay warm when hiking in the winter, we recommend the following principles: Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool). Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable. Boot height: the height of the sock should correspond to the height of the boot—for more protection, choose higher socks.
How to preserve the technical qualities of the boots
Water repellency is a fabric’s capacity to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. The fabric does not soak up water and stays light, breathable, and warm. Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. This treatment needs to be reapplied throughout the product’s lifetime. Products for this purpose (spray or liquid) are available in our stores.
How to dry the inside of your boots
Boots can become heavy through condensation and perspiration if you wear them in wet conditions. If your boots are very wet, we advise you to remove the insole and fill the upper with balls of newspaper, changing them regularly. The paper will absorb the moisture and help them dry faster. Never place your shoes too close to a heat source. Leave them in a warm, dry, and ventilated place.
