The fabric of this jacket is water-repellent: water slides off the surface. The fabric doesn’t soak up water, remaining light and breathable.
Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. We do not use fluoride compounds because of their harmful effect on flora and fauna.

PFC-free water repellency

To maintain water repellency, we recommend regular reactivation. 
Aim to do it after every 3 washes (be sure to rinse thoroughly) or after about a dozen uses in the rain. 
Reactivate water repellency by warming the fabric: 
- in a dryer for 15 minutes (synthetics cycle) - 
with a hair dryer, held 20 cm (8”) away from the fabric, moved back and forth twice over each section 
- with an iron on the delicate setting, steam function off, two passes over each section

Long-lasting performance

Waterproof fabric is treated with a coating or membrane, tested, and given a waterproof rating in Schmerbers or mm (pressure exerted by a column of water). The higher the number, the more waterproof the fabric. 
This jacket is designed with a waterproof coating: this component resists 5,000 mm of water (Schmerbers) before washing (equivalent to the pressure exerted by a 5-metre column of water).

Worn as a third layer, this padded jacket has been certified for an active comfort temperature of -5°C during a standardized test in a thermal chamber. The model is wearing a synthetic, long-sleeved T-shirt and a light fleece underneath. Effective in simulated 5 km/h wind. 
We also tested this product in static mode: the comfort temperature is 5°C in this case.

How warm is this padded jacket?

The fill power of down has 3 advantages for mountain hiking:

- Thermal insulation, because of the air trapped in the down and feathers.
Ultra-lightweight: down is lighter than synthetic fill and provides the same warmth. This saves even more weight in your backpack.
- Ultra-compressible.

The advantages of duck down and feather filling

Fill power is a measure of the down’s thermal insulation capacity and potential to trap air. It is expressed in cuin (cubic inches).
Down with higher fill power will take up more space, trap more air, and provide greater thermal insulation.With an 85% down and 15% feather filling, this jacket has a guaranteed fill power of 800 cuin or more (international standard).

Measuring the fill power of down and feather wadding

A fabric’s water repellency is its ability to make water run off its surface without being absorbed.
This prevents the fabric from absorbing water and keeps it lightweight and warm. The fabric in this down jacket is water-repellent, although we recommend you wear a waterproof jacket over top in the rain. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating its outer surface, but the treatment can deteriorate with use. 
We recommend restoring it after each wash.

Water repellency (not to be confused with waterproofing)

This washable down jacket can be worn all winter. But the less you wash it, the longer its thermal insulation and water repellency will last.
 
In short: 
1. Machine wash at 30°C with detergent specially formulated for down or technical garments. Gentle spin cycle.

2. Tumble dry with 2 or 3 tennis balls and repeat 2 or 3 times until it is completely dry.

How to care for down jackets

Once you have cleaned your padded jacket, we recommend using a water-repellent reactivator spray to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. This renews the fabric’s water-repellent properties and optimizes its performance throughout its life cycle.

How do I reactivate the waterproofing properties?

Snags are common when hiking in a padded jacket. Simply mend it or apply an iron-on patch to prevent the tear from getting bigger and letting the synthetic fibres escape.

A perfectly practical pocket system

There are two types of fabric in the lining: mesh in the back, for breathability, and nylon at the hip for abrasion resistance and freedom of movement. Hood lined with ultra-soft fabric for added comfort.

Breathability is measured according to the product’s thermal evaporative resistance. This refers to its capacity to release perspiration during activity. The lower the thermal evaporative resistance (RET), the higher the fabric’s breathability.

We changed our water-repellent treatments to exclude perfluorocarbon (PFC) technologies.

PFCs make fabric water-repellent but are toxic to humans and the environment. By replacing PFCs with other technologies that deliver the same level of performance, we reduce our environmental impact.

Main component 

A product’s waterproof rating depends on two key criteria: component and construction. 
This product was made with a coating. A coating is like a paint applied to the inside of the fabric to make it waterproof while remaining breathable. 
However, it requires a liner to protect it.

Coating

Laboratory tests are conducted to guarantee the waterproof rating of a component. We measure a fabric’s resistance to water pressure, expressed in terms of the height of a water column in mm (based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A component with a 5,000 mm waterproof rating can withstand the pressure of a 5,000 mm column of water. This is also equivalent to 5,000 Schmerbers.

We conduct laboratory tests that simulate rainfall scenarios to guarantee the jacket’s waterproof rating.  This garment was subjected to a shower test using 60 litres of water/sqm/hour for 2 hours. This test reproduces average rain shower conditions in the mountains.

A fabric is water-repellent when water slides over its surface without being absorbed. Because the fabric doesn’t soak up water, it remains lightweight and breathable.Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. This treatment needs to be reapplied throughout the product’s lifetime. The water repellency can be reactivated by putting the item in the dryer for 10 minutes on low heat.
You can also use the waterproof spray (ref.: 855490).

This jacket has been shower-tested at 60 L of water/m²/hr in 1 hour. It protects you from minor downpours, i.e., 6 cm of rain in one hour.
We measure a fabric’s resistance to water pressure, expressed in terms of the height of a water column in mm (based on the ISO 811 standard). Waterproof material rated 2,000 mm can withstand the pressure exerted by a 2,000 mm column of water (roughly the equivalent of a two-hour shower).

By recycling plastic bottles or used fabrics to produce our polyester, we reduce the use of petrol-based resources while maintaining the material’s quality and performance during hikes.
We use recycled polyester fibres on the blue (code 8731538) and on the red (code 8650029), as well as for the jacket lining in all colours.

Why choose recycled polyester?

The fabric of this jacket is water-repellent, i.e., water runs off its surface without being absorbed. This keeps the fabric from soaking up water so the jacket stays lightweight and breathable. A water-repellent treatment is applied to the exterior of the fabric. The main seams are also taped.

This jacket is designed for the occasional one-day hike at a speed of 5 km/h (3 mph).

The pant material contains spandex. If you are between two sizes, choose the smallest of the two. After washing, the pants may seem a little tight. However, they will loosen after use (like a pair of jeans with spandex).

Our advice for choosing your size

The fabric of these pants contains 79% organic cotton.
We began using organic cotton in 2006, a market that currently represents just 0.4% of worldwide cotton production. The cotton is grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. It protects biodiversity, soil fertility and reduces the risk of groundwater pollution. This is still not enough and that’s why we are working to make this product eco-designed.

Our environmental approach

Thanks to all your feedback, we have improved the concept and design of the NH 100 pants. The stretch component of this new model increases your freedom of movement. We also improved comfort (softness of cotton, width of the waistband) and drying speed (synthetic component). Finally, we also took into account your feedback on the depth of the pockets and the cut of the pants.
