Thermal insulation will keep your young skiers at just the right temperature. This garment adapts to the body’s movements and to the outside environment. Wedze uses wadding for insulation to keep the body warm. 
Wadding is a synthetic component made from polyester that stores more or less air, depending on the length of the fibres. The thicker the wadding, the more air it contains and the warmer it is.

Thermal insulation

The membrane is a very thin component applied to the inner surface of the outer fabric. This component prevents moisture from seeping in (snow, rain, etc.) while allowing perspiration to escape.

It remains light and warm. A treatment applied to the outer surface makes the fabric water-repellent. To remain effective, this treatment must be reapplied every 2 to 3 washes with specific products that are available in our stores.

These ski gloves have a water-resistant membrane (a very thin polymer film) between the lining and the outer part of the glove. This membrane acts as a barrier, making the product waterproof. The product’s exterior materials are also treated for water repellency. Only a rubber glove is watertight. Under extremely wet conditions, a glove with a membrane will have limited waterproofness.

The resistance of a fabric is measured by the height of the water column (measured in mm) that the fabric can withstand (test based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. Thanks to its 8000mm waterproofness the fabric of the 500 Warm jacket resists the pressure exerted by 8000mm of water.
For skiing, we recommend components between 3000 mm and 10,000 mm.

How is fabric waterproofing measured?

We lab-test each of our products to validate its waterproofing value.How do we carry out this test?We fit the jacket on a mannequin that spends a few hours under a shower.
Using this test, we can confirm that the jacket protects you from snowfall or a light rain shower of 6 cm in one hour.

How is the water resistance of a jacket measured?

We lab test our products to provide you with a comfort indicator. The comfort indicator is measured without tights for pants, and with a thermal T-shirt and a fleece for jackets. When snowboarding, snow can get in the jacket during a fall. The collar and hood were designed to limit this unpleasant experience.
The hood keeps the snow out. Fold the hood in 4 and attach it with the hook-and-loop tab it so it stays up and fills the gap under the helmet.
The collar must be closed up to the top to keep everything tight.

The hood is designed to fit over a helmet in case of strong winds or heavy snowfall. 
Simply open the collar of the jacket by about 10 cm, pull the hood over the helmet, and close the collar with the gusset (hook-and-loop tab closure). The gusset creates a well-protected area for the mouth and nose.

How can I be sure that my jacket is strong and durable?

The jacket’s waterproof fabric is reinforced with taped seams. These heat-bonded waterproof strips are placed on the seams inside the clothing to make it perfectly watertight. All seams on this product are taped.

Water often gets in through the seams. Does my jacket have taped seams?

The water-repellent feature makes water run off the fabric without seeping in because of a treatment applied to its outer surface. The fabric does not soak up water and stays light and warm. This treatment must be renewed over the life of the product, after 2 or 3 washes on average, with products from our stores. All the waterproof jackets that we design for snowboarders and skiers are water-repellent.

How to wash the jacket

What does the jacket’s water-repellent feature do?

To keep the kids warm, we use wadding insulation. Wadding is a synthetic component made from polyester that stores air depending on the length of the fibres. Wadding can be standard, hi-tech, or silicone-coated, and each type has different properties (warmth, low weight, elasticity, etc.).

How is your pants’ water resistance measured?

These pants have been developed using a robust component and superior construction that limit wind chill and prevent water from entering to help you brave all weather (rain, snow, wind, etc.). To check their water-resistance, the pants were placed under a special shower reproducing the conditions faced by a skier. We checked the waterproofing of this product in use in various weather conditions over several days.

How can I be sure my pants will protect me in bad weather?

Why are my pants water-repellent?

Bear in mind that the water-repellent feature can be reactivated. Simply tumble dry on a synthetics cycle for 10 to 15 minutes.
You can also use a waterproofing spray sold in our stores: spray the product evenly over the entire item, then allow to dry for 10 to 12 hours.

Can I restore the water repellency of my pants?

This jacket wicks moisture away. To determine a fabric’s breathability, we measure its resistance to evaporative heat (RET) based on a standardized ISO 11092 test. The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric. The 500 Downhill Ski Pants have a RET of 11. However, it is Wedze’s technical solutions (zippers, vents, mesh) that reduce condensation and maximize breathability.
