Design details

1 - Choosing the right size
Size is based on ability and weight rather than height. For the 500 Classic Cross-Country Skis with skins: - 55 to 65 kg (121 to 143 lbs) = 181 cm - 60 to 70 kg (110 to 154 lbs) = 188 cm - 65 to 75 kg (143 to 165 lbs) = 195 cm - 75 to 90 kg (165 to 198 lbs) = 202 cm - 85 to 100 kg (187 to 220 lbs) = 207 cm If you’re between two sizes: - For more comfort, choose the shorter size for more maneuverability. - For more intensive use, choose the larger size.
2 - Skin grip: simplicity itself!
In cross-country skiing, “grip” refers to the central area on the underside of the ski. Grip is important to avoid slipping on uphill inclines while delivering a smooth glide on flat and downhill terrain. Choose from 3 systems:fish scales, grip wax, or skins. The 500 Classic Ski has a mixed skin grip. Skins offer the same quality grip as a fish scale base, but they have the advantage of not making any noise and do not require waxing.
3 - Performance bindings: the key to an optimized experience.
All our skis are sold with Rottefella bindings that are compatible with the NNN, Prolink, and Turnamic standards. The 500 Classic Skis with skins are equipped with classic Rottefella Performance bindings, which are more suited to intermediate skiers. The binding can be moved forward or backward to your preferred position using the key provided: For more grip, move the binding forward; for better glide performance, move the binding backward. It features a user-friendly locking mechanism.
5 - A sintered base for superior glide performance
The base is the part of the ski in contact with the snow. It is made of polyethylene (HDPE), which can be extruded or sintered during the manufacturing process. The sintered base of the 500 Classic Cross-Country Skis is made from high molecular weight plastic powder that is heated, compressed, and cut into slabs. This process produces a denser base and delivers superior glide and durability.
6 - Waxing, the secret of sustainability!
We recommend that you prepare the underside of new skis for optimum glide. Several consecutive waxings are best to build up a proper base. To keep your skis in top performing condition, remember to wax them often! Check out our tutorials on how to wax your skis on our Inovik YouTube channel.
