How to choose your rash guard (Part 1)
All our UV-resistant rash guards are UPF 50+, meaning they offer maximum sun protection. The sleeve lengths vary, and they’re suitable for different water sports. That said, our line was primarily designed to meet the specific needs of surfers. Choose your rash guard based on the duration of your surf session: 1 hour, 2 hours, or 3 hours.
How to choose a UV protection T-shirt (Part 2: )
1 hour: Occasional practice. Choose either a loose fit (easy to put on, comfortable when dry) or a tight fit (comfortable when wet). Look for a loop system so you can fasten the rash guard to your shorts. 2 hours: Regular practice. A rash guard with a drawstring and seamless underarm panels will improve fit and comfort in the water. 3 hours: Intensive practice. A style with added warmth will let you stay out longer.
UV protection even when wet.
This Olaian rash guard blocks at least 98% of UVB rays and 95% of UVA rays (UPF 50+), guaranteeing effective sun protection. Ideal for water sports, it can be worn in or out of the water. The shirt’s dense fibres filter out UV rays for long-lasting protection, even after washing.
What does UPF 50+ mean?
UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) is an international standard that measures the proportion of UV rays a fabric lets through to your skin.A UPF of 50+ means that the fabric blocks at least 98% of UVB rays and 95% of UVA rays.
Reduced chafing
This UV-resistant T-shirt limits rubbing and chafing against surfboards and bodyboards. It can also be used under a diving suit to limit rubbing, particularly around the neck and armpits. Seamless panels under the arms reduce irritation caused by paddling movements. Our tests show that chafing is significantly reduced after a 2-hour session.
Support and stability in waves
This UV-resistant rash guard has a drawstring at the hips to keep it firmly in place. You can also attach it to the drawstring on your boardshorts to prevent it from riding up while you surf.
Warmth and wind
This rash guard is recommended for use in water temperatures of 21°C and up. Air temperature may affect this recommendation. Our thermal models are made of fleece, neoprene, or both. We recommend choosing a model made with neoprene if you’ll be out in conditions where the wind exceeds 15 km/h.
Suitable for multiple water sports
Our UV T-shirts meet the needs of the most demanding surfers. They’re also compatible with many other water sports, including kitesurfing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, water skiing, and stand-up paddle boarding.
Kids and UV rays
Young skin is very sensitive to the sun, particularly before age 3. UV rays are two to three times more harmful to children than to adults, so it’s essential that kids wear proper sun protection.
Sun exposure advice
This top is UV-resistant, but it doesn’t provide total sun protection. Consider other factors like reflections (off water, sand, etc.), temperature, and time of day. Wearing this top is just one part of staying safe in the sun. You should also wear sunglasses and a hat or cap, apply sunscreen regularly, and drink plenty of water.
