How is usage temperature measured?
All our gloves are lab-tested on a thermal hand. The temperature ratings (recommended and limit) come from a study with a test panel of 23 walkers exposed to temperatures ranging from 5°C to -5°C and 10 km/h winds. These temperature ratings are only valid in walking conditions. The Wilder gloves are rated 1 out of 5 for warmth. Recommended temperature:4°C Limit temperature:-1°C.
How can you keep your hands warm in cold weather?
Just as you would use the three-layer system when dressing for a trek, you can wear thermal liner gloves and windproof overgloves. This multi-layer system creates several layers of air around your hands, effectively insulating them from the cold. Choose gloves that are big enough to avoid compressing your fingers: compression slows down blood flow in the fingers and increases the sensation of cold.
How to keep your hands warm with the right clothing
When active, the body generates heat that is preserved by your clothing’s thermal insulation. If the clothing is inadequate, your body cools and the blood flow to the hands and feet drops in order to keep your upper body warm. Your clothing therefore plays a role in keeping your hands warm.
What is a glove’s dexterity?
The dexterity of a glove refers to the ability to handle an object whilst wearing it. Our gloves are laboratory-tested on a scale of 1 to 5 for their ease of use when putting on and taking off a jacket, handling bivouacking equipment, eating and drinking. The closer the score is to 5, the more the technique resembles a bare-handed technique. Our Wilder gloves have been rated 4 out of 5, ensuring a high level of dexterity.
Are these gloves windproof?
Wilder gloves are not windproof, and we recommend that you complement your purchase with waterproof and windproof overgloves. In fact, the wind makes it feel colder: at a temperature of 0°C and a wind speed of 30 km/h, the wind chill is -10°C. Windproof features help to reduce the cooling effect caused by the wind or the relative speed of the sporting activity.
What should I do if my Wilder gloves get wet in the rain?
If your gloves are wet, leave them to dry in a dry place. Avoid direct sources of heat to prevent damage to the fibres and deformation.
