FR500 jacket is good value. I purchased for snowboarding and to replace a 20+ year old EB parka. I like the FR500 pockets, four vent zippers, helmet hood, hem length and two way zipper for sitting on the lift. However, the FR500 is not a true hard shell with room for thick ins
ulation. Instead this is a slim/athletic cut long jacket with insulation pads that allows only for the thinnest layering. Otherwise, if I wear fleece or down underneath, the jacket becomes uncomfortable across the chest and inside the sleeves. FR500 is NOT designed for someone watching a football game on a cold day. FR500 still kept me warm snowboarding on a 36F/2C day with only two T-shirts underneath and the ventilation zippers wide open, trying to keep up with my son who was on skis. I will probably buy him his own FR500 when he gets bigger.
