Moderate tension (18–23 kg) offers more comfort, spin, and power, whereas
high tension (> 23 kg) provides better control and accuracy. However, high tension can lead to tendinitis.

Which tension is best?

For monofilament strings, Decathlon recommends a tension range of 19–22 kg. Monofilaments are not suitable for children aged 15 and under, as they may cause injury. They’re best for players who break strings within 10 hours of play, since they quickly lose their tension.

Monofilament?

For multifilament strings, Decathlon recommends a maximum tension of 25 kg. Multifilaments are recommended for players who are young or prone to tendinitis, or who rarely break their strings. They maintain their tension for longer.


About multifilaments

Racquet performance depends on the frame and strings. That’s why good string maintenance is key.
If you break your strings frequently, change them as soon as they break.
If you rarely or never break your strings, change them as many times per year as you play per week. E.g.: If you play once a week, change your strings one a year. If you play three times a week, change your strings three times a year.

When should you change your strings?

Tightening dead strings won’t do anything to boost performance. A loosely strung racquet will let you play a more relaxed game, giving you a more powerful, effortless swing. Over time, strings can wear out without breaking. They lose their elasticity and initial properties. The gauge (or diameter) also affects play. Thinner strings generate more power and spin, and a larger gauge will give you stiffer strings and will be harder on your body.
