The Automatic Resistance mode reproduces realistic routes by automatically adjusting the resistance to simulate ascents and descents: if you climb in your application, the bike will automatically increase the resistance, and reduce it if you descend. This provides an immersive experience, ideal for training with applications such as Kinomap. 
(The bike is therefore not compatible with ERG mode or SIM mode with % gradient correlation, used by Zwift, for example).
